I just got the phone with Chris at Calmini, after placing my order for the SAS. He said they are still waiting for enough people to place orders before it will even go into production. Didn't even get a final production cost!

How many people here have actually gone ahead and placed an order for the kit? He said the number was extremely low, but didn't say exactly how many had been ordered. Just trying to get an idea of how many people are actually gonna go through with this.

I already decided where I could put the parts in my garage when I'm done rebuilding the house.

I have an order in as well...

I am not taking it very seriously but they said I was #4. Apparently the magic number is 10.

They are pretty helpful in some respects but there is other stuff, Like info about coil over setup is questionable... Not sure if they are trying to work out deals so they can supply them to us and know everything is matched properly. In any case the sooner they start production the sooner those specs come out the better... Coil overs wont be cheap... need to save that coin for this little venture...

I have Dana 44 and I am currently working on getting all the pieces to build it up.

I am planning on running 33's so the question I have and I know it has been mentioned is what size r&p... I believe someone is going with 5.14. but what is the final tire size you are going with?

I just hope there is a run on orders and it happens sooner than later.

If you are just using it for off road and not on the street then the 4.88 gearing for the D44 will work with the stock X gears.

Do you need to put $$ down to place a pre order?

They aren't taking any payments when you place the order, because they have no estimate as to when the kit will be put into production. When you place the order, they take all your info, as well as a credit card #. You won't be charged, until the kits are actually going to ship out.

They said that they would give me a call as soon as they received enough orders, and then call again when the kits are ready to go. There hasn't been too many people who are willing to make the $$$ comitment just yet on the kit. I don't know exactly how many people have ordered, but it sounds like I might have been 5th or 6th.

As for the coilover options, Kevin said that all the travel/spring rate info would be provided with the purchase of the kit. Coilovers will cost $500-$800 each depending on who you decide to go with, i.e Fox, SAW, King, etc.

I am in no major hurry, since I won't be out of school until June. I don't have time to do the install until then anyway.

Calmini has never charged before something ships. Unlike me who is taking pre-payments for the decals. laugh

4.88 and the (2002-2004 non-supercharged) 4.90s are close enough to run in any conditions. 1% difference in ratio is tolerable for on-road use, 2% or so is about the limit for trail-only use. 4.90 and 4.88 are .41% different.
You would definitely NOT get away with 4.88 and 4.636 (2000-2001 V6, and 2002-2004 supercharged).

thanks for the info guys... I was not plannning on mixing and matching... I am currently planning on reagearing the rear to match the front. My question was regarding 5.14 gearing seems really tall but I am finding that the standard does not apply to Xterras as they do to the rest... meaning my buddies are running 4.10 on their jeeps woth 33s... I know, whole diferent ball game and many variables... I just want to be sure I know what I am asking for when I go and get the work done... Becuase the likelyhood is that whoever I go to will have way more experience on almost any other type of 4x4 other than the xterra. thanks for your help...

To answer someone else question is that as much as I would like to build the X for trail only I have limited funds so practically I will be driving on road as well (Maybe 10 miles a day regularly with the occasional 45-60 minute drive)). So propper and "Flexible" gearing as it were is the goal... I would like to be able to drive on the streets with the 33's and not be strugglin to go 65-70...

You guys are great. Makes it alot easier when I have to go to someone else when I can't do the work myslef... with that said other than the gearing (lockers) and the new rear spring pack (Deaver or National) I plan to do the rest of the work myself...

For some reason I was thinking the X had 4.93 gears in it. Anyways the 4.56 gears for the D44 should work with the 4.63 gears in the X.
It's a .984% difference.

If you run plan on running 35" tires you would probably want to go with the 4:88frnt/4:90rear or even lower . Am I wrong here? I think the power loss would be noticable on the highway.

Get as much gearing as you can when you build the truck.. I'd recommend 5.13/5.14s for 33s or larger.

If the rear ratio doesnt match what you are putting in the front, change it out.

I have about $2k in my h233b 3rd member with 5.14s, ARB air locker, and gear setup.

If you swap out the rear axle for something else with cheaper gearsets, all said and done, you will be spending about the same amount as just regearing with the Nismo gears. All the little parts you need will add up.

IMO, it'll be about the same cost either way. The H233b is about as beefy as you can get, so I'd stick with that unless you want to go with a narrowed Dana 60 or something.
