Time on the dealer warrenty is comming to an end and I am looking at my options. All said and done, how much did it cost you to do an sas? Im trying to decide if I want to do a 3" with the IFS, which will require a steeting upgrade or go with a sas an get rid of a lot of problems that the IFS has with it.

Cost will vary depending how much you pay for the axle, what options, gears, etc, you use and how much work you’re doing yourself? Figure 4-6k depending on what you get. For the Core Swap parts (3.7k) - axle ($1.8k for the CALMINI SAS kit, $800 for the fox coil-overs complete, $400 front CV driveshaft, $300 rear spring pack, $400 anti rock sway bar) Granted I spent ~ 6k but then again I went from stock to dual locked SAS over a weekend Changed gears, new tires, and added some other HD upgrades such as Long Field Super U-Joints and a RockCrusher D44 Diff Cover/skid that are optional.

Including the warn hubs and Yukon 5.13 gears ~ $500 for the the front axle minus options (ARB locker, Super U-Joints and a RockCrusher D44 diff cover)

I'll have to think about it some more, but looks well within reality for me. By the time the warranty is up I should be able to do the axle rework.

When the time comes Im going to have to spread that mod. out. THat amount of money will be a hard pill for my wife to swallow. It will be realized though, I first have to get a place build the axle seeing as how my 4 kids have taken over my garage with all there ride ons and such, wouldnt trade them for the world though.

Airbornenurse, I really think you should do the SAS now. That way you can sell me the SLR front lift parts you have.. for cheap.

Well the price will all depend on how much I lay down on the mod. Of course I just recently got the 3''SL and that was a hard and tedious sale campagian.

hey i am just curious, how much more is it to SAS an Xterra, as opposed to putting the Total Chaos Fabrication Long Travel Suspesion lift on. In other words, is it a better deal to SAS than go with the Total Chaos Fabrication?

Other than that its a bit like apples vs oranges They both use coil-over shocks up front with different design goals in mind. The TC kit is set up for BAJA running, higher speed desert terrain, jumps, whoops, etc. Coils are firmer (500-600lbs) & better suited for sand running and faster type four wheeling . More emphasis is placed on compression and rebound travel rather than articulation with a ~ 3" lift For the CALMINI SAS kit the coils are softer (300lbs dual rate) and the whole setup gets more articulation. More emphasis is placed on wheel travel and droop. Better suited for rock crawling, slower type wheeling with more lift 5". Both are more reliable, stronger than stock, work very well and make sweet upgrades

Everything in between will be a tradeoff. ........ My Dana 44 is sitting in my garage with gears and ARB. SAS is better for my purposes.
