Guys i need your help please. just today my Xterra wont go to 4L even Neutral but will engage to 4H and back to 2H. The lever stops midway and wont move further.
Should i take it to Nissan or is this something that could be resolved by doing something.

I have seen the quick time video that was from Ian but my lever does not go all the way down.

Please help

I know this will sound silly but you must push down hard on the lever while moving into 4L sometimes I try it in park and netural. Also look underneath and make sure you dont have a piece of road debris stuck in the area. Hope you make out allright

did you ever have any trouble putting it into 4lo before?

It may not be clear in the manual, but you have to "telescope" down the transfer case level to get it to shift into 4lo.

I have used the 2Lo feature before but this time it would not allow me to push down on t he lever and shift down to 2Lo. Its kinda stuck between 2hi and 4hi. I called my friends at nissan pallone and told them ill be bring the truck there this afternoon.
Hopefully my Baby will be alright. I cant remember anything that could have damage or even a situation that i might have engaged it to be stuck at that stage. The last time i had to use 2Lo was when we had the blizzard here in washington

Did you have your transmission in neutral?

You don't have to put the trans in neutral to shift into 4hi and 2hi but you do need to be in neutral to shift to 4 lo.

Yeap i got the transmition in neutral. I did it by the book still cant move it to 4Lo. Im waiting a call from nissan to find out what was wrong.

Okay this what the guys from nissan said " a synchro or gear got broken and parts of it got lodge some where in the tranny that why you (I) cant Shift to 4Lo." Does that sound right to you guys?
they replaced the part and everything is fine now they did it under warranty.

Yeah ... the description of your problem sounds logical. I just can't mentally picture how it happened. Did you notice a lot of grinding noises when trying to shift to 4 Lo?

Hmmm ... are they talking about a broken synchronizer/gear in the transmission or a broken synchronizer/gear in the transfer case?
