Hm. You must also have an IFS front.

It will be a cold day in hell when you see solid axles make a comeback I'm afraid. IFS is lighter, and handles better, two things auto makers are always striving for.

If you don't want IFS on a truck go out and buy yourself a Ford Super Duty. I think they are the only one's left who make a truck with a solid front axle. But be aware that when you buy that beast alot of the tight technical stuff that the X can do will be off limits to that truck.

OK, if you really want to flex, solid axles are the best, there is no question of that. If you want an X that really flexes, bust out the sawzall, the grinder, the MIG, and the tape measurer, and go for the SAS. You can do it, and you will learn alot. Just do the world (and yourself) a favor, make sure that you setup is well though out in all respects, from steering and brakes to driveline angles. That way you will have a safe, reliable trail X that will do what you want it to. If you are happy with IFS, keep it, as long as it does what you want, it is fine. Oh, For the record, the heep Grand Cherokee still runs a solid fornt end.

I just moved here from Dallas so I have yet to find any of the local spots :-) (I am not too far from Germantown)

Thank you for that insight (even though this thread has been dead for over 2 months).

Actually, Nissan didn't start building vehicles in the USA until the 1980's.
Nissan didn't have much luck selling anything in the USA until the 521 pickup and the 240Z.

Here's the current Patrol...

Does that not include all those B210s buzzing around in the late seventies, early '80s, or are you not including Datsun years?

Hey Captain,
Not that you hang around an Xterra board that often...
I'm a Capatin in the USMC too.

Why don't you grow up and act your rank... We're very proud of your 83 CJ-7, and after you've relplaced the motor, axles, and tranny in that thing three times I will be getting winched out of a hole, with over a 150K miles on the original motor.
Knucklehead,

I'm embarrassed, thanks for representing the Corps. I'm sure they're lining up to enlist so they get the pleasurable opportunity of serving under your stellar leadership

It's even funnier you like jeeps so much when most of my offroad experience came from riding in HummVees... Seems you'd prefer them, unless you're a wannabe.
You're probably some staff pogue who hasn't even been to the rifle range in a couple of years.
