OK, there’s been a change of plans…sorry for any inconvenience.
Barney Riley is pushed to June 14 & 15 which opens up the weekend of the 7th. As it happens, my partner, Danno, had it in mind to do Summit Lake trail. It takes off from 80 at Donner summit and heads east to Summit Lake. We’re thinking the snow should gone for the most part by then..if not, we’ll plow through whatever we can anyway.
Here\'s a map.

Which trail is this? One is listed near Donner and one is down by Bridgeport...and I'm sure there are more smile I didn't think you meant the ones listed in WV or IN wink

It's reported to be a "nice little family trail" that takes you to Summit Lake. From there, you can access miles of Wheelin trails. I've not been all the way in to Summit Lake due to heavy snow, but the portion I did do was not overly challenging. I intend to explore, improvise, adjust, overcome and conquer. Join us-or I'll post a report. This might be a good club run. confused smile

Is this a trail that could be done over a day if you are based in Sacramento? Its really hard for me to stay anywhere over night with a new baby around.

Thanks

I haven't been all the way in as yet, though it's not that far. I imagine it can be easily done, in and out, in a day. However, I would recommend travelling with someone else. If it came down to it, you might get some volunteers to escort you back out. [Wave] Or, bring the babe! wink

So it is the "hiking" trail listed that goes to Summit Lake. Cool. Right off of 80 maybe an hour outside of Sac (or Reno). Sounds like a plan smile

This is it, I think...

Yes my friend and I are definately interested in this trip. We would like to do the BRT but a little far for a day trip. Put us down as a strong tentative for now.

I don't think so Charlie..that's part of the Pacific Crest and NOT open to wheelin. This trail is listed on maps as a road. It is just West of Donner Lake and just East of Boreal.

There should be a rule against naming things the same within the same area...Let me know where to meet you and I'll show up :p I guess driving the PCT this summer is out then? [LOL]

How about 11:00 at the Summit Lake turn-off, which is located West of Donner Summit and East of Boreal Ski resort.
16 FRS no sub, 16 CB. I have a bud up that way doing a trying run to see if it's open. Will keep you posted. smile

Danno reported this morning Summit Lake is NOT doable due to snow. Therefor, we are going into Eagle Lakes. See new post.

Hey All,
I am unable to make the trip this weekend...

I mapped out the location, and it's too far for
me to drive for only one night of camping...If
I had 3 or 4 days off, I would go for sure...

So, at this point it's:

1. Olebiker (with Kate)
2.
3. Chris (CCX) 50/50 chance that I can make it.
4.

Thanx for the invite...maybe next time we could
meet halfway...
