The CowTown Jeepers have extended an official offer for the SWXC to enter (and attend to watch) an official rock crawling event in Katemcy, TX. The classes will run from stock to fully modified. Go HERE to view the details.

They have said their site is just in the preliminaries for getting set up, so it may seem a bit sparse. In any event, the payout for those entering, and placing, is gonna be big.

You can also check THIS out for specific on Katemcy.

Yes, this is in September, but if you are interested in running (ie competeing) in the event, please contact me asap.

Edit: AC is gonna give out a $200 gift certificate and Shrockworks is giving out a $150 gift certificate or set of sliders (winners choice)

Thx,
s

I would love to compete but it already looks like I am overly modified....unless there is some way I could make the suspension drop pass as it is seen on pathfinders in Japan...or i could go in the second class where I will be poorly out classed..

Looks like I would fall into this class:

West Texas Offroad/Redneck Ram Stock Mod Class (non stock rock crawler class)
· Re-geared axles are allowed.
· Tires will be no bigger than 33 inch or 3 inches bigger then stock (what the sidewall says)
· Of the Tranny, transfercase, and engine at least 2 must be stock and un-modified.
· No more then 3” lift allowed.
· Must have at least 1 stock axle.
· This class is also for factory rock crawlers.
· Only 1 traction aided device permitted.

And that is only cuz of the 3" lift. I don't think I'd be able to hang with these guys. Still, I would like to go and check it out and run a few trails [Smoking]

I think it would be cool if some of us entered. If for nothing else, we would have Xterras in a rock crawling event. That would make for a cool showing.

I too want to go and watch, if nothing else. It is $5/day to watch, $10 to camp, $40 for camping and away-from-competition wheelin for the weekend.

Oh, I have also made an inquiry on if they can adjust the 'inches' for lifts. As X lifts come in 3" increments, I whined that we would be knocked up into a heavy-mod/red neck mod class for just having a suspension lift. Dunno though how rigid/flexible the rules are.

I think having a spoter you know, trust, and love is going to be just as important as a capable vehicle.. Scott find out if the course will be available to look at before the event..like some time before the event and are the courses the same for each class since it is a timed event?

The course will be laid (layed ?) out Friday before the run. NO PRERUNNING WILL BE ALLOWED. The event coordinators will run/walk the course for safety, but participants will not.

Also, unless we are 100% stock, we will not be running the stock rock crawler category. Stock is stock. There is very little flexibility in this class. Any of us who run the event will more than likely be in the Texas Off Road category. Don't worry though. The event coordinators have said this class is not as tough as it would seem. Now, the BaerTrax class is another story...

KIK will be held September 4, 2004.

Aero - No, you probably would not hold up against the Heeps, BUT, AC is donating a $200 gift certifiacate to the best placing X (no matter what the class). In any event, just getting X's out there to run would do our community a world of good.

That throws you into the next class up...west texas redneck, or something like that. If I entered, that's what I would have to run, being locked front and rear.

Jason you would be in the Baertrax class because of the dual lockers. The west texas class only allows one locker.

If we also want to wheel out of the competition is that included in the $100 for the competition?

Keith,

I sent ya the app, and it answers all of your questions. BUT (ooopps, started a sentence with a conjunction junction what's your dysfunction...) here are some answers for those without the app.

The app has the address on where to send your payment. By no strange coincidence, the guy lives in Keller.

How long do you have? Dunno, guess that depends on how many other people are asking the same thing. I would say two-three weeks, but don't rely on that.

Yes, your $100 includes wheelin' for the weekend (in and out of the event).

Keif, you officially have until September to come up with it. smile

We also have a 2nd sponsor donating something really cool to the non-Jeep prize (kinda along the lines of what AC is giving). People need to compete, otherwise it is just free mods for Roger!

YES. The main comp is a general competition for everbody. BUT, the Jeepers want Nissans to get out there, and AC + another vendor are donating prizes for best placing Xterras (although I am contacting the Jeepers to make that open to Frontys and Pathys) no matter your class.

In short, you will compete against the Jeeps, but there is a separate prize listing so-to-speak for the Nissans where we all would go head-to-head for placement.

We run the same course as everyone else. However many runs we do, your score will be judged in two places. Against the whole group and against the Nissans. There will be no separate runs along the lines of one for the general population and one for just Nissan.

(And I say 'however many runs', becasue they may let people run 2 or 3 times like in AutoCrosses, but I will ask to make sure.)

They have not yet laid out the courses. If I were to hazard a guess, I would say each class will have its own course. (A locked truck running the same course as a stock vehicle would be silly.)

You gonna enter and run?

and I assume it's lowest time wins with penalities being X number of seconds added on... also if you run more than once only the best time is counted?

Doug from the Jeep club sponsoring this event would be an ideal source to contact with any questions... smile

doug@cowtownjeeps.com

The rules say the event is based on CALROCS scoring. If I remember correctly it is, in very short, lowest time with seconds added on for strapping, winching, going outside the lane etc.

But that is just my point. It does not matter if you cannot hold up against the Jeeps, you score is gonna be rated against the other Nissans. I am gonna try an describe my point a tad better than I have.

Say you are 1 of 10 in your particular class
In your class you place 10th with a time of 45 seconds
In the other two classes, the top Nissan times are 55 and 50.

You will win squat in your general class, but 1st overall in the Nissan Shootout Class (as it is being called).

My point is that my class may be extremely difficult compared to the stock class. Therefore my time would not be comparable really. This is all because I got a BL me thinks.

Seriously though, I just talked with Doug, and they are gonna make the Xterra Shootout a Nissan Shootout to include Xs, Frontys and Pathys.

A few KIK FAQs

How many runs: Your entry fee will entitle you to AT LEAST 4 RUNS (possibly 5 depending on the amount of vehicles entered)

Are there separate courses for each class: No. Each class will run the same basic courses with special bonus sections/tough 'bypasses' for the more heavily modded classes.

Will we compete against the Jeeps: Yes. But as it has been mentioned, by doing this you will have a chance to win two prizes. One for the open/general class, and your time put head-to-head against the Nissans. There may even be a prize for Best Nissan Showing.

Rubicons and Z71s: Fall under the Baertrax class; no other way to make it fair.

HAHAH Even in it's highly modified form Chris' Z71 isn't as capable as our Xs/ frontys and yes, even the caR50. confused 144" wheelbase tends to screw ya..

That throws you into the next class up...west texas redneck, or something like that. If I entered, that's what I would have to run, being locked front and rear.[/b]
damn.. I guess I'm out then.. doubt I could get my truck ready to compete in that class by then.
especially with my wheel base..

it's not modified at all. it's got cold air intake and engine programming. and that's it.
no other aftermarket performance items. I say performance cause of my light bar/bed rail combo.
those tires are factory size, the ride height is factory, the double damage to the crossmember is not factory though.

and yeah the wheel base is my biggest downfall.

according to the rules the Z71 would fall into the redneck catagory. as jason said. mine would anyway.

YES smile

Again, for those who are contemplating running in the event, it is gonna be geared towards daily driver vehicles, not the custom monster rigs you see at some of the more extreme events. Heck, if I did not have a lift, my truck would fall under the stock class!

I am out. The amount of lift I have looks like it would push me up into one of the highest categories. I want to run it next year for sure.

Chris I bet you would have a much better showing than I would, so go for it!

I do not have one so it does not matter to me, but what are the rules on winches? Or are the obstacles not really going to need them (yeah right).

Will the obstacles need them? Never been there, but I doubt every trail/obstacle will. The goal is to get through the course without any outside aid other than your spotter telling you where to go. Yes, that can be challenging, but that is the point. smile

How is the event scored? Go HERE

After reading that some stuff makes alot of sense. For instance, the basic stock trail will be what everyone runs. There will be side 'gates' you can choose to tackle for additional points. These side gates will more than likely what the tougher class vehicles will run to get higher point totals. In short, you would not have to take the tougher course if you did not want to. (Although in bypassing, you point total for the more extreme groups will suffer, but who cares, it is for fun. smile )

Per Doug, KIK is gonna follow the CALROCS scoring rules. Saftey rules for KIK are posted on their website. Yes, they are different than the CALROCS rules.

Oh, per request from the event sponsors our portion of the competition is officially the Nissan Challenge and KIK is gonna be donating some webspace to it shortly. cool

Edit: See the first post. Shrockworks has stepped up to the plate!

OK, I found this thread by accident.

I will try to clarify anybodies questions and save from Scott having to email me all the time.

Also, I am very approachable, if you have any questions, email me. If I'm by the computer, I'll get back to you within the hour with an answer.

This event is geared towards the daily driver. Saying that, I've read on here that some of you are not going to compete because you are afraid that you won't stack up against the Jeeps in the Baertrax Class....that's hooey.

You know why? Because I have NO IDEA what the course is going to look like yet. It could very well favor a longer wheelbase vehicle...in fact, I'm sure some of them will.

If you have been to Katemcy, you will know, like Moab, lockers are over rated. But, we had to have a class for the 2 lockers just in case. It's really hard to divide classes based on lift and tire size only.

Also, we are not going to try to roll your rig. This isn't a UROC or CALROC's event intended to flop you on your side. With that said.....it could happen, I've also seen a buddy flop his Jeep in a Hotters Parking lot being stupid. eek

And besides, you guys have an event within the event. I'd like to thank your club and your President for basically arranging this for me. It has been a pleasure corresponding with Scott, you guys are truly lucky to have such a guy as president. Most Jeep Clubs I still haven't gotten a response to my email I sent them weeks ago.

Also, about when to get me the check/registration forms. The sooner the better, but I know as a working guy with 4 kids that money can be tight. If you can get the form to me with a $20 bill, I'll hold your spot. But beware, there are no refunds, and I will heckle you on any board I find you on if you back out on me and owe me money.

I hope to have a BIG turnout of Nissan's at the event. I am also trying to get a big turnout of Landcruisers as well (I own a FJ-40 as well as two Jeeps).

Again, if you have a question, email me.

And Kieth, that was my daughter who answered the door.....and she is off limits. [Finger]

By the way, I thought I'd clarify something else.

While there is a time to complete the course....this isn't a race.

It is about accumulating the least amount of points during your run, and doing it in the time allowed.

If you finish in 2 minutes and have 8 minutes left, but have 38 points, it's not going to do you any good.

OK, bit off topic, but here we go. Old is this: realizing you are on the other side of the door.

What do I mean?

My doorbell rang, I answered it, and kids asked if Zach could go play. It then hit me I was not the kiddo asking for a friend to come play. I am now the adult... on the other side of the door.

Actually I did indeed get Mister-ized for the first time the other day. I had to wear a name tag at my son's school; it said Mr. Heise.

When a student called me, I turned around literally looking to see where my dad was.

My knees shook at that moment. Twas I he was talking to.

Hmmm, thought I made another post.

I'm not trail rated. They started that mid 04 (I think) and mine was 8/03, so no badge and no Chrome Jeep logo on the steering wheel.

I might compete, I might not. I competed for a year as an amateur surfer, and it really took all the fun out of surfing. Last thing I would want was all the fun of off roading taken away. That being said, I may,may not. I need to pay off credit cards and save for jeep mods.
