Friday night at Fox and the Hound, we discussed going to Barnwell sometime in October, but didn't come to any conclusions about a date. I just thought I'd help get the ball rolling. Any weekend is allright with me, just lmk. What dates are good for the rest?

I'm gonna try to post a list here of who's going when, just reply and I'll add/delete names.

4th (sorry, looks like its closed that weekend)

Barnwell is located in Gilmer, TX... Here is a little info: BARNWELL ... It should probably be about a 6 hour drive for you... which is no excuse not to show, as I've got to drive atleast 5... laugh

change in plans.. I can not make the second weekend in Oct..

However the first weekend is good for me. This will also be the last time in a while my truck will be in Dallas. We are moving to MN.

So.. I don't know if it is possible to change the mod day with Barnwell but if it is possible that would be great..

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Not to be rude, but ModDay needs to stay on the weekend of the 4th. Some people attending ModDay are not available on the 12th.

I would rather ride than mod smile Barnwell on the 4th would work for me. Carlton let me know and be sure to bring your truck not Liz's [Finger]

PM me your plans on your move if you don't want to post. I'd like to get together with both of you before moving... maybe a road trip central for both of us. I am sure others would go too. Bossier City comes to mind for a weekend smile

Liz if you are Lurking we all say hey and congrats!!!!

I figure if some of the group wants to go to Barnwell the rest of the group can do the mod day.

I plan on leaving Dallas on Saturday around 8 am on Oct 4th to head to Barnwell..

Whoever wants to go is welcome. The more the merrier. I am just bummed that I am going to miss the meeting. Oh well.. frown

And I will have my truck NOT Elizabeth's. :p

I *think* the only ones currently going to Barnwell on the 4th are Roger and Carlton. At least they are the only ones who said they are going on the 4th.

Roger and Carlton,
We might just run the gammut and add Barnwell to our weekend plans. Are ya'll planning to camp Saturday night? If so, we might get out there late (probably around 10 or so) after our party in Dallas. Let me know.

If that's the case here's our weekend.

Austin - Burleson (visit old friends)
Burleson - Ft Worth (Mod day)
Ft Worth - Plano (housewarming party)
Plano - Barnwell
Barnwell - Austin

How's that for a fun-filled weekend?

Jason and others... Barnwell on the 4th and yes staying the night. Depending on weather may bring trailer... I can't ride the 11th as it's Susan's Bday the 12th.

Really would like some others so I don't need to help Carlton out all by myself all the time [Finger] May be last time to take advantage of his experience at TMTC

Jason come on out and we can night ride and or just get some of the new trails in on Sunday morning... You have my cell

You don't need an awe or gas can. Just sleeping bags and stuff like that. Does anyone have a gas grill to take if Roger can't make it?

Looks like I'm in.

I'll probably go up Friday night after work, so Kraig and Clint, if you want to caravan, let me know.

A full-size air mattress fits great in the back of the X, sleeps wonderful. Other than that, you shouldn't need much more than food, drink and recovery gear (most of us have that anyway, but we'll charge you to use it laugh ) If you find you need an axe, you probably aren't on a trail.

I have a small gas grill I can bring if we need it.

Axe for firewood? I dunno... maybe use it if you piss me off? What about a queen size air mattress? Will that fit?

I think a queen size would be too wide and too long. My full-size barely squeezes in there. We usually bring firewood. There is probably some still stashed down there, and I'll bring several logs to add.

I think Chris will only have to worry about if he gets the new meats on and fitting wright to make the 11th on time........

Carlton, I'm glad I had a chance to meet you man and do a little bit of off-road trails with you too. Hey, I have inlaws in MN and family in PA. So me and the wife go up there to visit her family every year around Christmas time, anyway I would ride with you anytime if you ever want to hook up..... [Uh Oh !] Snow Monsters..

BTW Keith, are you bringing the video equipment on the 11th. I'll have the mini memory bit camera for short 16 sec and 3 min video flicks with sound, you maybe able to use some of them if you make a Barnwell II video for dubbin over or something..........

I use a queen size and it works very well. Its snug against the sides but it does fit.

I get confused when you say Jason, are you talking to me or the other? I will definitely go the 10th, but I think I might pass on the 4th and just go to mod day instead. Still up in the air.

I have one of those small Coleman stoves, where half is a grill and the other half is a burner, only been used twice, so not real sure how well that works, but I can bring it. I do have a propane grill, but it won't fit in the X, if somebody with a truck maybe wanted to lug it along. Also have a large smoker, but it weighs like 200 lbs, and I really don't want to take the time to smoke anything, would rather run the trails.

So do most people just bring an air mattress and sleep in their x's, or do people bring tents? I've camped both ways, so not sure which I will do.

Jason was the most popular boys name the year I was born. I went to school with at least 10 in my graduating class. Believe me, I know what it's like to have "Jason confusion".

I usually sleep in my truck, mostly cause I'm lazy and don't want to set up my tent. It's much quicker to set up and tear down when you only have to move things around your truck.

Sooner or later, we'll need to start figuring out who's showing up when, what we're cooking for dinners, and coordinate what food to bring.

This will be fun.

i started a list at the beginning of this post of who is going and what weekend, just respond and I'll add names to the beginning to cut down confusion. I tried to get everybody's responses right, but there was some flip-flopping looking at the last three pages, so take a look and make sure. Just trying to be helpful.

Hattrick, sent my dues off this morning, so sometime this week you should get them, depending on how slow snail mail us between Richardson and wherever it is I sent it, Carrollton?or something.

checking out the tmtc/bmra calender for october, and it shows closed to public use for a natrc competitive trail ride on october 3-5. does public use mean non-tmtc members or for everybody. i may not be going up that weekend, but was wandering if it would change things for those who are? just curious.

mad Yep - it looks like it's closed. If they are having a equestrian event, I can't imagine they'd let any vehicles be lumbering around, members or no. That SUCKS! mad

Roger and Carlton - any suggestions?

Looks like Barnwell is out for this weekend...

Carlton does that mean you can't make it to ride here again???

You are going to get up in that snow and amy never ride again smile

What about Shilo Ridge in Alto? Not as good as Barnwell but still fun. I can't ride the 11th frown

Call me and let me know... What about you Jason???

Barnwell was about the distance limit for that evening, since we would be driving from Plano. Alto is almost 2 hours further. Carlton - any chance you could stick around another week?

Yeah, I'll head up after work. When it gets a little closer, we can look at times to meet and caravan if you want. Kraig will mostly likely be riding with us as well. The McDonalds we met at last time would probably be the best place again. Let me know what your plans are.

For the Dallas folks, we can meet up at 8AM at the Wal-Mart parking lot in Garland. I would like to be on the road no later than 8:30 so we can get there early enough to have a full day of wheeling. Let me know if you will meet up with me there or not so I know who to wait on.

The address on

That's the new one at 190 and N. Garland right?

Is everyone coming back Sat. night - or camping until Sunday? I'm not sure if the posts about camping so far were referring to Fri. night or Sat.

I've got one of the small 2 burner Coleman stove/grill things if that's useful.

It is along the way to Barnwell and it is the most 'central point' to meet.

Can someone remember me how much it costs to get in and to stay at Barnwell? If I can come, I may try to get there Friday night, and stay until Saturday evening ( I have to be back in Arlington on Sunday morning).

Here's what they have posted on the site:

Gate/Trail Riding:

annual members - $35.00 per year*
$10 for 1st day
$5 for each additional day
Includes all vehicles w/immediate family

day use members - $15.00 per day per trail vehicle

*All memberships can be purchased on-site; Gate Fee waived on first weekend with paid Annual Membership. Membership includes full voting rights, quarterly newsletter, etc.

Camping :

primitive sites:

annual members - $5.00/night
day use members - $7.50/night

electric included sites:

Looks like we will be heading out from Round Rock before 4:30 on Friday. This should put us on I-20 around 7 and at Barnwell around 9. If anyone wants to meet us along the way let me know and I'll email you my cell.

Dallas folks - should we expect you around 10:30 on Saturday morning? If so, we'll be sure to meet ya'll up front.

Just a word of caution for those of you heading up from Austin...

In case some of you aren't aware, this weekend is the Red River Shootout between Texas and O-Who? (Oklahoma). Last year traffic was pretty bad going North on I-35 to Dallas Friday afternoon. I'm not sure what route y'all are going to take, but I wouldn't want to mess with I-35. Just my $0.02.

P.S. - I wish I could make the trip!

Hey JAson, email me your cell number (I think I have it, but I am not sure which one of the two numbers it is...) I might be able to meet up with you, and follow you in, since you kinda have to go past here to get there anyway....that is assuming that I am able to even go.

a week? looks like 2 days to me.

For anyone planning on coming on Friday - I have a buddy meeting me at the gas station at the intersection of I-20 and 155 (exit for Gilmer/Big Sandy). If you want to email me cell numbers, I will call you when I am coming into the DFW area. So far it's possibly Jack and Jason. Anyone else?

Well, I'm already bringing cheese for chillidogs, so I can get a lot. I can pick up some sausage, and if somebody brings tortillas, we can have breakfast tacos. just a thought, something we always do when we go camping.

I usually just plan to go up to the BBQ place at the front. They serve an awesome breakfast for $5. Saves having to clean up. Let me know, though. I didn't buy any breakfast food with this in mind, but I can pick some up if need be.

I'm about to head out in about an hour or so. Got my errands done early this morning and am getting antsy to go.

As far as food, I got the chilli, cheese, tortillas and some sausage for breakfast tomorrow. Can somebody make sure to bring a can opener for the chilli? I only have one, and Kim ain't letting me take it.

Daniel, do you still have any of the big SWXC stickers? If so, can ya bring me one? Thanks

I'll see you guys when you get there. [Wave]
