Had a lot of fun... worked on Rudetanker's suspension lift and Tracy's timing belt.

I feel a little bad about leaving last night with stuff unfinished - but I had to get in a full day at the office today.

Hope it all turns out okay smile

Nope no pics... I'll try and post details later.
Worked till 10;30 sat night and Rudy and Tracey had to stay the night as we were not done with either truck. Sunday we finished Tracey's after 7:00 and did not finish Rudy's till about 10:30.

Too many little challenges kept slowing us down frown

Thanks to all and very sorry and appologize to Tracey and Rudy for taking so long.

OK... things went pretty normal with Rudy's lift nothing that has not been seen on any of the other Calmini lifts. Just took awhile with interuptions and stopping to work on Tracey's.

Tracey's was an experience for anyone that has not done or seen it done. Wasted a lot of time because I did not have a harmonic balancer puller. Friggin Advanced Auto said they had one it was 8:00pm but drove to get it. Got there and they could not find it mad Sold me a larger 2 Jaw Pulley remover that they said would work. Well it did not and all the other places were now closed.

Sunday I bought one at Autozone (last one they had) got home and the metric bolts it had did not fit. Another trip to buy correct bolts then returned and it worked like a champ.

Finished and put it back together... now have squealing noise like a pulley or belt and could not locate. Made calls (thanks Carlton) but still no result. Chk Engine light comes on eek another trip to Autozone and they check and tell us it's an intermittent fireing of a cylinder. Also now have a knock sensor error because of this. Unplug without clearing (they would not as policy) but light went out and has remained out.

When we removed number one plug for TDC check it was a bit corroded and we chaulked it up to that. Engine was running smooth and no vibration or Harley type challenges. Returned home but could not locate that squeal. Because of lateness Tracey decided to drive it home to Austin. At hwy speeds all semms normal???? I appologize once more for keeping Tracey and Rudy so late. I also thank my son Scott for hanging with us and doing the work.

This morning Tracey took it in and they said it was coming from the timing belt... We did not replace the tensioner and spring (not available) and I REALLY hope that is all it is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SOOOOO this weekend at my place we are doing it again. If you want to help or see it done come on over cool It should be a lot quicker job as we have the tools and will not have to do the waterpump as we did yesterday.

IF YOU MECH HEADS have any suggestions please let me know!!!!

Roger, sorry the link I'd posted wasn't much more help to ya'll. There's a thread on N4W about timing chain swaps right now with some very technical looking illustrations and instructions. It's for the VG30 series engine, if that doesn't help, post up your questions there. They're very knowledgable and can certainly help you get'r done. Good luck again, Dan

yikes... sorry about that Roger.

I was wondering - based on the link that DBAX posted before - if the tensioner was going to be a problem.

Sounds like it is worth it to buy the full-on timing belt replacement kit and not skip anything.

I am going to go get the tensioner today. I just want to thank all the guys for their hard work and Susan for her hospitality. Roger is going to pick up my truck today, so he'll be rolling on 20's this week. :p
