We've been talking this up for a couple of weeks on TNT - but nobody has mentioned it here that I've seen.

We've got a pretty good list of "I'll be there's" for this trip already - so join on in... bring that X out for some offroading fun whether it's your first time or 100th time.

Hey Abiel (in Mexico) and I are working on details for him joining us on the 30th. He will be bringing his GF so how may other women are planning on being there? Nothing against you guys but it would be nice for her to have female company

I will have to agree. This donation trip to Mexico is awesome. I rode shotgun with Sen~or Redmond last spring, and it was definatley worth all the effort.

This being my first outing with XOC I have a few newbie type questions.

What times will everyone be gettin there? I figured soon as the place opens. I had planned to leave around noon to drive up and get there by 6pm or later.

Is there any specific place people meet up at?

Where does everyone usually sleep? I'm packin all my campin stuff thinking we'll be sleepin in the dirt

jasunf, I will be meeting Abiel from Mexico and heading up. Maybe you want to meet us in Waco and caravan. We will leave early Sat morning. Abiel has a long drive on Friday so he will need some rest. Call me and I can give you directions if you want to leave on Friday.

Roger if you can email me about the Trip to Mexico. What kind of costs am I looking at while in Mexico for hotels, etc.... How much water/fuel do I need.. just about everything and an estimated mileage down there if you have it. I do plan on driving, but I am loosing my job soon so I have to see if I can afford it.

One thing is for sure. You will not be staying in hotels. The villages you will be going to are VERY primative, some had no electricity, much less a hotel. You will be bunking in your truck or a tent.

Gas was several tanks down, plus a spare jerry can in case you run out in the mountains. Food wise, I survived on a few granola bars, a few small bags of chips, and gatorade for the entire weekend. (Unless you want to use the 'outhouses' they have in the villages, I would suggest low-yield foods).

I would seriously suggest at least $200 in mixed US/pesos (the tollway fee was killer, plus the fee to get a 'visa' for your truck to Mehico), plus a good, WARM sleeping bag, and a good high altitude parka (wind proof and warm). Don't forget your passport, a cooler of food (there are no stores in them thar mountains), WATER and anything you need to live with no resupply for 2-3 days.

Coordinate with whoever elese goes so you do not double up on things (like stoves to cook on and what not). Most of all, after you remember to load all of your things, keep room for household goods (clothes, blankets, pots, pans, toys, but not D.O. or toothpaste - seriously) as that is your primary reason for going in the first place.

Oh, if you have room, and it is not expensive, a treasured item is aluminum siding (or whatever it is you build redneck sheds out of). The men will 'kill' (<-- use that term loosly) for it. It is far superior to anything they use to build house walls.
