OK, I've been around this forum a little while.

We have lots of info, lots of wheelin, lots of flamewars.

I seem to recall some previously banned members who have resurfaced. Brent has not reappeared, though.

Love him or hate him (definitely had my differences with the guy), he was a very knowledgeable member of the forum. He sometimes gave answers to questions that it seemed others didn't know.

So I just figured I'd ask what others members (and of course Carlton) think about it.

Should Brent be invited back?

I didn't know he was busted, I thought he volunteered his identity when he started signing "Brent".

That he did do. If he had not tried to be a sneaky bastard and just asked I would have let him back on the board. As it is. He did not care enough to ask so I do not care enough to let him back on.

Good. The guy really brought down XOC. Even now when I am looking for something and I come across one of his stupid "search" remarks it reminds me of how glad I am that he got booted. The guy offered nothing except replis telling people to search. Reinstating him would do nothing for XOC..all it would do is open up the same old can of worms. Let him play god on the other boards. Leave XOC Brentless.

I think he was equally helpful as harmful.

He was a character of XOC, and as long as he doesn't drive people too crazy (which is debateble if he did or not) I don't see the harm.

As Carlton said though, if he wants to come back....he should at least ask.

Like most people I thought of him as a mixed bag...when I first came I was irritated by him but as I came here more I became amused by him and astounded by the depth and breath of some of his obscure knowlege about the X or Nissan in general...He has even emailed me directly to answer some questions that I posted here after he was booted and I thank him for that...

Was he a prick? Sure. Yeah, he was numerous times.

Did I find it hilarious? More often than not.

Did the search shit get way old? Yep. On the flip side I've part of some MB's that demand newbies search and if they don't, they face the reckoning of the whole board and not just one person.

Did he have some good advice and knowledge? Abso-fucking-lutely.

I'd vote reinstate, as I did the other times he's been banned (can't remember if it's been more than twice). That being said though, this isn't a democracy, and Carlton's word is the final say. So it is what it is.

Nah. Leave him banned. The problem is that his presence here causes too much trouble. His posts stir up shit, which then leads to posts of F-Brent, Don't F-Brent, I like Brent, hey I never said that, etc, etc, etc. It leads to a bunch of arguing and bickering and stupid shit that frankly gets in the way of a decent topic/thread. XOC is far better without him than with him. I think if someone wants to read Brent's posts they should go to any of the other Nissan boards out there and posts away. I'm sure he's not hard to find.

I haven't been on the board as long as most but I found Brent to be helpful most of the time. Even when he broke into the search maniac he was still helpful more times than not.

Not that we're actually casting ballots but I'd vote to reinstate if we were able to vote.

While his constant encouragement of others to search, was sometimes annoying, I think his delivery certainly improved with time.

Besides, like I've said, he gave solid answers to questions that may not have been answered otherwise.

The stupid thing about others telling ppl to search and then posting several threads that reference the topic is.....If you take the tiem to search for somebody, then read through to find relevant info, why not just tell the poor bastard in the first place? I mean i'm pretty much a noob, but when someone asks a question and i know the answer to it, I just give it. It takes more time to look through old threads and copy and paste links into a reply than saying search. I can remember specifically a time when Brent, alter ego XTerrible i believe, replied to some noob about shifting on the fly 4wd. He said the topic had been thoroughly covered in another section. I was the following post and said, yes you can shift on the fly at almost any speed as long as your hubs are already locked. The prick (brent) then has to say do we have to elaborate any more on the issue since it's already been covered in 4wd section?

Yes, its the nice thing to go ahead and answer the often repeated questions. But what can happen is that a very simple question can lead to a long thread that might contain good info.

So lets say a few months go by and you try to do a search on a similar topic. Instead of 1 or 2 concise threads, you have 30. All the info is jumbled, inconsistent and hard to follow.

Sites like this one are a tool for those that can use them. Think of this place as a library. Look for the item you need, then if you cant find it, ask for help.

IF we don't answer them and the old threads get deleted when a clean up is run. When that happens we won't have any more theads and will have to answer them again anyway.

Still being new here, I can't comment on anyone's past behavior. But......I have talked with Brent before and he has been most helpful. I've also seen how much he has helped others - often newbies who should've searched in the first place. But, I've learned more from reading links Brent has posted than I have from searching on my own. So what if he could've answered with a quick yes or no, but instead posted a bunch of relevant links that required someone to take a bit of responsibility in reading through. Why give a newbie an easy yes or no answer when they should've searched in the first place. Well, if nothing else, providing them links to past discussion helps them fully undestand whatever it is they had a question about, instead of the simple yes/no they thought they were wondering about.

I'm a moderator on another truck forum, so I participate in the punish/ban discussion among the other mods and owner all the time. Unless a member is deliberately breaking the rules of the site or harassing other members, there is no reason to ban them. If you simply don't like the way they post, get over it. If you need to change the rules of the site, do it - but carefully consider the possible results. Some members contribute a significant amount to a board and simply because they rub some people wrong or do things a bit out of the norm is no reason to ban them, unless it is clear they have broken the rules. This is why it is important to have well thought out rules and an active moderating staff with authority to act independantly when necessary.

There are a few folks that have suprised me with their negative posts, namely Admin. So go figure........

Good luck on that, you are just peeing into the wind. You can get banned from here just because someone is mad at you. Heck, a founding member of our club used our club moderator account to moderate our club activites, and that account got banned. No notification or anything, just 'shoot from the hip' behavior.
