Woohoo.. finally broke down and got XBox.. Fry's in San Diego and San Marcos had a One-Day sale for $129 + 2 Sega games.. well when I called them they said they sold out. So I went to my local Circuit City, they said they've been matching the price all day, well they ran out of the two specific Sega games, so they let me pick any $50 game and any $30.. Out the door $140.

I tried to buy two, no go frown

Good, now go buy Xbox Live (version 2), Midnight Club II, Phantasy Star Online, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, MechAssault and NFL 2K3 ($15 at TRU).

That was going to be my next question, which games to buy.. I grabbed Enter the Matrix and NLF 2K3 as my two free games. So far Enter the Matrix pretty much kicks ass.

Yea yea.. gotta remember the last video game system I had was N64 and haven't really played anything in 3 years, so it seems cool to me smile Actually, I'm already getting aggrivated with the game, so I'm sure I'll be out to spend more money later. Not sure what I like anymore guess I'll be renting a little of everything to figure out what I want.

Anyone have a decent hack-em-&-slash-em game to recommend for PS2? Something on the lines of Diablo..

A good rental (due to piss-poor AI, and completely linear level design) is Brute Force. It could have been the next Halo, but it fell far short, even with 3 years of development.

Speaking of Halo, it's a 'must own'.

The Tom Clancy games are great. Like Ian said, Halo is A MUST. I like Enter the Matrix, but it seems like it's not finished. I don't know if it's the camera angles or the collision system (is that what it's called?) but sometimes the character is just not touching the "bad guys" when he/she is whooping their ass.

Buffy is a good time waster. It's not that challenging, but some of the dialoge is pretty funny.

Godzilla is fun, at least my kids love it.

Moto GP is a great motorcycle game.

Dead Or Alive 3 is GREAT!

Soul Caliber 2 is TIGHT! smile

I love RoboTech:Battlecry. I think I love it mainly because I miss the cartoon. Yes, I own the DVD series.

Tetris World is awesome if you like tetris.

TransWorld Surf is pretty good too.

I don't own many sports games, so the other guys will tell you what to get there.

I recently played the Everquest Online adventures for PS2. I am not into those types of games at all...but it was very cool. You might want to check that out if you are into hack-em/slash-em. Another cool thing that I found out (if you already didn't know) is that you can plug any USB keyboard into the PS2 and it works without any drivers or anything.

If you're tight on money, play the games you have now and save up for EA Sports NCAA Football 2004. That game already looks like the best game ever... if they make it Xbox Live compatible. [Uh Oh !]

EA has stated they will not support Live, so that's a no-go. Sega is now beating up on the EA sports games.

For $15 you can pick up NFL 2K3 at TRU and play against real people.

Maybe they are beating up on them price wise, but definately not quality wise. Madden NFL 2004 will allow online play (just like 2003) and you will be able to be the owner. You will be setting ticket prices and everything. I don't know if that will be out for X-box...but I don't know if anyone can say that Madden isn't the best sports game ever!

Read some reviews, NFL 2k3 beat Madden 2003 on all platforms last year.

Madden 2004 will only be playable online on PS2.

I can. Madden used to be the best. The NFLK series kicks it's ass now. It was the sole reason I bought a Dreamcast back in the day. I still prefer 2k over Madden on the PS2.

I have played 2k2 and I thought it was way too arcade like. I think it is a personal preference. If you enjoy playing games like NFL blitz and NBA jams...then I think 2k_ is for you. If you are more into the realistic simulation..then I think Madden is the way to go. I remember there were like garbage ass codes where you could get your whole line to freak out and rush the quarterback at the same time making it impossible to avoid a sack in 2k2. The new Madden even has the authentic playbooks from all of the teams. Like I said...personaly preference.

I think you're confusing Sega's 2K series with something else. The Sega line has always been about realistic play.

There is nothing even close to Blitz about it.

my last video game system was, oh i cant even say it, an Atari. Not the 5200 but the original early 80's isnt asteroids the best game ever Atari. God bless basic graphics programming.

No laughing at the games, they came with the system. Dont have DSL/cable connection for Live yet but looking forward to it this fall. Took the plunge and got Xbox of ebay with 2nd controller, DVD remote and:
Star Wars Starfighter SE
007 Agent under fire
007 Nightfire
X-men Next Dimension
NBA 2k3
NBA Inside Drive 2002
NASCAR Heat 2002
V-rally 3
Test Drive Off Road Wide Open
Project Gotham Racing
NFL Madden 2003
NCAA Football 2003 (EA)
Legends of Wrestling
JSRF
Crash Bandicoot Wrath of Cortex

Feel like I got a good deal at $365 including overnight shipping. Even if the games were only $20 a pop the rest was only $65. so far everything works and I finally have something to waste all my free time on besides this board!!
