I want to paint my Xterra. When I was looking to buy my Xterra a few months back, I was unable to locate the color that I wanted...ATOMIC ORANGE!!!! I found a good deal that I couldn't pass on a green one. But, I was wondering if anyone knew if the Atomic Orange color was available commercially anywhere. I don't want to take the X to Nissan to get them to paint it since it would cost TOO much, but was going to search out someone local.

Were you thinking Maaco ?

If you don't spend a good $3000-5000 it's going to look like ass.

You will also instantly decrease the value of the vehicle by thousands of dollars.

It's a big waste of money.

What Ian said!

Painting a perfectly fine vehicle is very, very, very, very, very, stupid.

I think you can get the color mixing codes from nissan. If your gona keep your X around for a while and you think its worth it to paint it do it.

I agree with Ian and Suspect2. I do however feel for you. If I bought a green X I would want paint it too. A good paint job starts at around $3500.00 if the only prep work they do is masking and DA sanding. A color change will easily tack on another $1000.00 or more. The only way I'd ever do a complete color change is if I could afford a paint job like my Fater in law just put on his 72 chevelle. After color was laid down it was wet sanded with 2000 grit and then clear that I believe was also wet sanded and final finish work consisted of hours of hand buffing to a 10 foot deep looking shine. BIG BUCKS.

That and $3-$5K won't even cover painting the doorjams, engine compartment, etc. I know this because I wanted to have my Audi repainted the same color due to several blemishes and wear on the exterior. I was quoted $5.5K to paint just the outside of the body with the original color. Probably looking at at least $10K before there would be no sign of the truck ever being green and even then the value will be decreased significantly. If there is green left then you may as well take $5K off your resale value.

Still want to paint it?

Just invite some friends over with bags of oranges and have a orange throwing party for your Xterra....

DAMN!!! You guys ran that dud off that easily.

Maybe a custom job incorporating some or a lot of the orange you like would work out best....AND a lot cheaper?

I'm with Clapto, only get the panels gold plated, and go with a purple velour interior....

NICE!!!!!

I was gonna have my '63 Karmann Ghia painted, and was quoted over $5000, and that was with me taking the body off and doing the major body work myself...
