I think you need to use a rag and some pliars. Thats how I got it off my SE-R.

It screws off. Not very easily, but it does.

Well alrighty, I`ll try to unscrew it. Don't worry fella's, nothing "ricey" is going on it.

Yup, and it will probably get damaged during removal. I hope you're not planning on putting it back on.

Since I did not want the original shift or TC knobs, I just cut them off. The ugly rubber things have a nylon insert inside.
Since xtoy is painted trophy bronze, the new knobs were made using a billet of bronze. FWIW, the thread is 10mm, fine pitch.

dave and xtoy - we don't buy what we can make

No as long as I can put another knob, I`m fine with it if it gets damaged.

What is Xtoy?

Indy -

Xtoy is what I call the vehicle. Were you were thinking of some sort of 'adult' toy?

dave and xtoy - but a toy nevertheless

Not every addition to the X has to be a functional one...

Been a while since this question came up. You just gotta crank the hell out of it, use a rag and pliers/pipe-wrench, or better yet, a strap wrench. It will twist halfway around itself but should bust loose.

I wrapped the knob with a rag and used a pair of pliers and it didn't damage it at all. It was pretty tough to get loose but you just had to put some dick into it :p I had a Hurst knob lyin around from my old Camaro and thought it would look tight.

i used a pipe wrench, make sure you grip it half way thru and not at the bottom or at the top. i struggled with other wrenches but once i put the pipe wrench on, it was easy.

I didn't like twisting that hard on the linkages.
So on the rubber part I used a safety knife, then dremeled off the plastic part.

I replaced mine with a rocknob..

This reminds me of the old saying,

"if it ain't broke, don't try and fix it..."

but for you that do get it done, let's see some pics after, im curious as to how it will turn out.

Here's my Hurst knob.
Different looking but it looks better than the worn knob.

It was on my 94 Camaro that I had and sold. I think they sell them at SLP parts. About $30.

I don't want to sound stupid but I keep seeing references to NISMO... What is it and where do I get these?

Nismo, you can find at the dealership if you wanted to. I would go find another brand that you like better ... and not pay for the NISMO name.

It's the performance division of Nissan. Nissan International Motorsports (Nismo). If you're one of those ppl that likes to keep their mods factory, there you go.

Try one of these to get the knob off...You can add a piece of pipe for added leverage. Home Depot sells Rigid Brand ones in metal also.

I used duct tape and a 24" pipe wrench to remove mine.

does anyone know what size the thread is on the 5spd?

I believe that the thread is 10mm x 1.25 pitch.

I that is what it is for the t-case, and I'm fairly certain that's the case for the tranny.
