Modifying Console

Hey all,
I keep beating this one to death so I`ll end it here. I have been looking for a 2001 SE, but for the right price and location it's pretty difficult. My only main reason for a 01 over a 00 is that its a 01, so whatever bugs in 00 hopefully were worked out for 01. Also the minor button and console changes and white gauges found in the SE version of the 01. If I were to get a '00 model. Would I be able to order the parts from the '01 model and replace it myself?
Any info would greatly be appreciated. Thanks..

I think what you have in mind is:
A) Time consuming B) Will be Frustrating and tedious (connecting all the wiring and switches) C) expensive. (I have no idea how much an SE Dash will cost, but I can imagine its not going to be cheap)
How experienced are you with a "dash-swap"?
All this considered, is it really worth it? You aren't really gaining anything (practical) from the SE interior over the XE interior. That sounds like alot of work just for a cosmetic upgrade.
Also, where are you gonna find an SE dash? the junk yard is hit and miss, and the dealer is gonna screw you in the cost for parts.

Why you so fond of stock 01 console anyway? 8) There are plenty of more decent aftermarket ones. In either case console swap isnt hard - its just four bolts to get off 8) You can search "Parts&Accessories" for "console" and you will find plenty of threads on installation of steelhorse console, and stock one would be even easier.
Then again - you seems to think about dash not about console 8)

Sergei, I think he is talking about the dash and instrument cluster, not the center console.

Hehehe ok, I have decided to do a little photoshop action here to demonstrate. Now I agree, swapping the gauges *may* be too hard, but I`m hoping the others are simple bolt ons... Hope the images work! Before... After... So what do you guys think?? Indy

I just like how the changes were subtle, yet it brightens up the interior a bit. And now the gauges are a lot easier to see. I'm hoping its nothing more than just taking off the covers/button/etc... and just replacing it.
But i figured I`ll ask the fellow X'ers for their expertise first!

Indy, if you mean the center 01 console it's yours for the shipping. I have / love the Steelhorse with Ricks inserts. Will not put the stock back in.
Email me if interested.

hmmm...care to explain? Got any pics, sounds interesting.....
In any case, I take it what I posted is something thats easily achievable? That would be quite funny if I were to buy the console parts and not even have the X yet! But you know what, I just may take it off your hands. Is it in fairly good condition? Without asking too many questions, how many parts are involved?
Thanks!

Thanks for the link xcanuk,
After checking it out, I dont think that's what I had in mind of replacing LOL. That's a pretty kickass site for mods though!
It's bookmarked now!

Only bit where i had problem - that i had to go with 2" rail, as 1" seemed to be putting console nearly on the top of airbag sensor. And that distance between bolt-ons places on mine X were not even - front one was like 7.2 while rears were at exact width of console. Go figure. But then my model is 515, not 501 (505?) like yours.
