I saw this at SEMA last year on a Jeep, but don't know if Rhino lining or other coatings will stick to the Xterra plastic trim. Has anyone ever tried this, or know someone who did?

I can only tell you that getting good adhesion between the paint and the flexable (poly) plastic can be difficult. It has alot to do with the prep of the plastic surface.
Your best bet is to call or e-mail Rhino and ask them. Maybe check with an authorized applicator in your area.

I've Herculined my entire rear bumper, sliders, and rocker panels. Personally I think it looks better than Baja “pin-striping” and scratches.

i think that Herculiner is about 100 dollars for a gallon if i read an add right

maybe look around... im wondering if you can take like solver paint and mix it so it will match the xterra or even white or yellow... so it would look kick ass....
