Doh!!!

Waxing up the X this past weekend...I guess I wasn't too careful, and got some excess on the plastic thing just before the windshield...I wiped it down as soon as it got on there, but I noticed the other day that it's still there...Any advice from the appearance experts as to removing that junk...Also, does anyone know of a good protectant for the outside plastic, that won't turn all milky-white like Armor All eventually does? Thanks!

Mothers Back to Black for wax on plastic and 303 Protectant is the best in my opinion. Armor All is bad--it protects nothing.

Is using Mother's Back to Black Tire Black a good thing on the plastic parts ? ...

I use it and Meguiar's on the door handles, step rail grids and the grid on the rear hatch (step up) ... would it work on all the plastic parts of the bumper and fender flares or should those be waxed per your recommendations above ? ...

Does Peanut butter really work?!?! I have wax on some plastic that I want off but I am going to feel like such a horse's ass if I start spreading peanut butter on my truck only to find out that Brent is laughing his ass off at me somewhere.

I can't say for sure, but several people suggested it the first time the wax-on-plastic problem popped up here. I never really tried it, but I didn't get the impression that anyone was pulling anyone's leg at the time.

Pep, why would you wax anything plastic?

Creamy peanut butter of course. Chunky is too abrasive.
It's no joke tho. The oil in peanut butter (or most any oil) will dissolve the dried wax residue. How's that you say? Well, oil and wax are related - wax is a longer chain version of oil. Then remember that like dissolves like - so oil can be used to remove wax.
If you don't want your X smelling like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, then try a cleaner like Meguiars Extra (all surface cleaner). They claim it will remove wax residue.

Mothers back to black makes the white area disappear, but once it wears off after a few rainfalls or washings, the white area is still there from the wax.

Mothers makes Back To Black, and I guess Meguiars make Tire Black.

As for Back To Black, I've noticed that it doesn't get all the wax with just a wipe, but I'll bet if you take a toothbrush and get into the texture you can get it all pretty easy. Sure does look nice afterwards either way on the black and the grey plastics!

I've used it on door handles, step rail grids and the grid at the hatch ... also, tried it on the lowest part of the mud flaps and that really looks good ...

Would you go so far as to do the bumpers with it ? ...

BTB on any plastic on the body: wind deflector, roof rack plastic, cowl (under wiper arms), door handles, mirrors, BSM, grille, bumpers, wheel lips, mudflaps and the plastic they mount to...

I've been to several car stores and haven't seen it. Is it some sort of speacialty item or what? I'm using meguiars right now but I wouldn't mind trying BTB.

Yes, BTB is a bit hard to find it seems. I think I found mine at Pep Boys. Shop around is all I can say.

I use the peanut butter and it actually removes the wax residue. Anything else I have used only covers it up including BTB.

Back to Black on all plastic trim and bumper parts... The stuff is liquid gold for plastic. It cleans the stuff of wax, oxidation and dirt - and provides a semi-glass sheen that lasts many washings and or rainfalls.

This stuff rocks, and is a permanent part of my detailing kit...

I waxed my X yesterday and of course, got some on the black trim and bumpers. I use this stuff called Black Chrome which works really well. Covers the white smudges right up and really shines up the black trim. I've seen it at like a zillion stores so it should'nt be hard to find.
