#263304 - 12/11/06 09:06 AM Pics of Cragar Soft 8 on an X??

I have searched and searched, but unless I'm a retard I can't find any pics with an X with these wheels. Anyone have anything for me? I'm looking to get these wheels in a 15x8 4" BS on 31x10.5x15 BFG AT's. Would like to see this setup w/out a lift since I'm stock right now. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

That combination will most likely rub...why did you select it?

Well I like the look of that wheel, I like the price and I figured going with the 8" will give me the opportunity to run 33x12.5 at a later time. I also can't find the 15x7 with our bolt pattern. Would it still rub with a PML?

yes, and even more so when you switch to larger tires. the 8" width is not needed to run the 33x12.50r15 either, and i think the closest you may find in black steel rims with our bolt pattern is 4.5.

They aren't the Soft 8's, but I recently picked up some Cragar 342's. I have mounted my 2 spares to them and set them by my X for comparison.

Right now, there is no lift on my X. But soon, there will be a PML, and 2" BL. The wheels are 15x8's (6 on 5.5 with 4" BS) and the tires are 33x12.5x15 BFG AT/KO's.

I did look at those but I was afraid of how the red outlining would look. Actually can barely see it. They have those in 15x7 with our bolt pattern but 4" BS....I'm assuming that should be OK, especially if I throw a PML on there for now. I appreciate the pic Garrett, thank you.

Got lead? You might want to have the tires "match mounted" to (possibly) reduce the number of lead weights on them. [ThumbsUp]

can you even turn that thing???? And yes, have the tires rebalanced. THey should be able to rotate it 180 degrees on the rim and use much less weight to balance them.

Match mounted? What is it/how does it work? I'll check into it, but these are only my spares.

When I get the 4 main ones, I was going to ask them to use adhesive weights on the inside of the wheel.

Oh, and I meant to add this photo in my last post.

Welcome to bigger more aggressive tires. They normally require a bit more weight. You dont even want to see what my spare 35" has on it!!!

Looks good Garrett now get those damn parts in! wink

My guess is that they didn't take the heavy side of the rim, and make it opposite the heavy side of the tire...in fact, it looks as if they might have make the two heavy sides MATCH, as all the weights are right next to each other, a rare balance solution otherwise.

Its unusual to need THAT much weight on that tire....especially all in a row.

confused
even if they did match balance them, when tires are balanced they are supposed to have all the weights right next to each other, if not that would indicate that the tech was "chasing" the weight or the balancer needs to be recalibrated.

another thing about balancing and big tires is they will almost always take more weight than a smaller tire. ask anyone who is actually in the business and deals with tires daily.

When i searched earlier I found a thread where it said running the Soft 8's in a 8" wide on 31's was just fine, am I wrong here?

I have soft 8 Cragars with 5" back spacing. Running 305/70 R16 Super Swamper Radials (33.9x12.5)

Summit Racing has them in both 4" and 5" BS and they are cheap at $49 each. I have 1.25" of body lift and you can see that I chopped the rear of the front fenders off right below the second fender mount bolt.
I am fairly sure that if you got the 5" BS Soft 8s and 31x10.5 tires you could run un-modified with no rubbing at all. With the 4" BS wheels you would probably rub.

i never said it would be a problem, what i am saying is that its not entirely necessary to run a wider rim, to fit the tire size you are looking and that knowing that, you may be able to open your options for rims a little ie: backspacing options.

Both you and TJ replied saying I would rub with the combo I'm looking at yet another thread says it would be fine. I only ask because I'm finding two different answers. I'm looking for someone who is actually running the soft 8's with a 31" tire to confirm either it will rub, or it won't. Like I said also, if I have to go the PML to avoid rubbing I will do it.

Thank you MMNIAC, I will go check them out.

BTW, your rig looks pretty sweet.

I edited my post a little on page 1 if you didn't catch that.
Basicly I think you will rub a little with the 4" BS Soft 8 and that tire for a couple reasons. The square profile of that tire, the extra tire width over stock and over an inch each rim will stick away from the truck will probably give you a little rubbing on the rolled edge in the center of the fender.
With the Soft 8 offered in a 5" BS I just don't know why you wouldn't go that route.

it will rub because of the backspacing of the rim you are looking to get. the wheel and tire will stick out way further that the stock wheel, so on any type of compression you will get rubbing on the body itself. furthermore if you put the 33" tires that you want without a body lift you will have some serious issues. the pml will not help to fit a bigger tire or different backspacing, as a matter of fact neither will a full 3" lift.

the main issue you will have will be the back spacing.

I'm looking at 31's right now....with maybe in the future if I went suspension & body lift of getting 33's. I was trying to buy now, with future in mind, but I just found 15x8 with 5" BS on Summit Racing, although thyey're back ordered. I have to assume that will fit the 31's, no?

I didn't realize how difficult it would be to find some frickin black wheels!!

Yes, I can turn it since I have stock tires and wheels on it. The 33's on Cragar 342's are sitting beside the X...notice the lack of lug nuts (or look at the second picture).

When I was searching I never came across the 8's in a 5" BS. I'm for sure going with those now, just going to try to find a place that has them in stock now. Thank you for the heads up on that!

I got my Cragar 342's from www.jegs.com

They have free 1-2 day shipping. Fast service, no hassles. Highly recommend them. They also have the Soft 8's along with other wheels by Cragar.
