I am about to replace the bfg hydro-trails on the truck.

I have the BFG AT's on my frontier and love them to death.

I am putting BFG AT's (31's) on the Xterra.

Are you guys buying 4 or 5? I know you are not supposed to run a smaller tire on the LSD rear would it be okay in an emergency to run the stock 265/70/15 on the front?

better safe then sorry...buy 5. i had very little choice b/c i went w/ 33's but if you aren't running identically sized tires, i would imagine that it would be very dangerous

Its fine, it will pull a bit to one side and I'd make a point of getting the proper sized tire on fairly quickly, but it won't hurt anything.

Ideally you should have all 5 tires the same size but I would think it shouldn't hurt to run a smaller tire on the front to get off of the highway. Look at those little donuts they use as spares on cars!

I highly doubt it'll hurt much,but I suggest that if you have the extra cash then go for the fifth tire...

I have 4 duelers.. Next time i get tires, (i will have a new rear bumper , and a place to put the spare to be seen, I will get 5. The lsd sucks as it is. I wouldn't worry about 10 or 20 miles on the rear with different tires.. Just imagine the freeways in most urban areas.. they arn't straight as an arrow like in rural areas.. the LSD doesn't know if it is a long sweeping turn, or a different (minor) sized tire.. 30 to 31 don't worry. 33 to 30.. worry..
The front will pull a little if the tires are different.. for a long haul off the trail, back to town I would put it up ftont..

I figured it wouldnt be a big deal, just to be safe I would probably run the smaller tire up front if need be.

There isnt alot of difference between the stock and the 31's from what I've been reading on here.

Yeah, the stock 265/70-15 is pretty much a 30x10.50, running a 31" tire with that wouldn't be drastic. If you were going to 32s, I would definitely advise you to get a matching spare
