Alright, I'm thinking of getting a whole new stereo system. I want an amp, subs, in-dash stereo, and new speakers. Right now I'm looking at Audiobahn. Any suggestions? By the way, I still want some room in the back for my guitar stuff.

smallest sub/box you can get that still sounds like a MUCH bigger sub is the JL 8w7. It's flat out amazing. The xterra stealth box they make is pretty kickin' also, but you'll pay out the nose for either. IMHO, Audiobahn is junk considering what it costs. You looking for a bestbuy/circuit city system, a high end system, or a competition system?

I'm not looking for the cheapest thing, but not the most expensive, you know?

Do you have a Tweeters store near you? if you do, that would be the place to go.

Audiobahn is garbage, for the most part....(i.e Crap you find at Circuit City or Best Buy)

Pick yourself up a copy of Crutchfield and peer thru that for a couple weeks to get an idea of whats out there..

For head units, Id say go with Alpine, Kenwood Excelon, Pioneer (stay the hell away from Sony's garbage)

For speakers, look towards either some infinity's, boston acoustic if u can, polk audio

For subs, JL isnt the cheapest but hands down the best sub made out there (could be argued, but mine is 7 years old and kickin like it was brand new) Some other brands to consider would be alpine, inifnity or polk. (Stay away from Sony again here)

Just remember, 6.5" speakers in the front, 6x9's speakers are in the rear, and you dont need anything more than a single 10" subwoofer to fill the truck. Get an amp to match the sub and with a decent headunit, an amp for the speakers isnt necessary unless ur budgeted for a top quality system...

Thats just my two Abraham's...Good luck dude

JP_22,

where you at in Indiana? I'm up in West Lafayette. We have an Ovation up here and I'm pretty sure there's one in Indy. They carry JL/Boston. Both are REALLY nice stuff. An entry level JL or boston component will be 10x better then anything at BB or CC. If you would like to save a few bucks, I have a JL 12w0 that is mint condition I'll sell you pretty cheap. I've got all sorts of install stuff here in WL and would be more then willing to help do an install if you wanted the help.

Here's what I would do for a KILLER system at a VERY attractive price:

1) buy my JL 12w0 for $50
2) buy a JL 300/4 for $350 at ovation
- 2 channels brigded to the sub
- 2 channels to drive your new fronts
3) by some JL VR600's for $110 at ebay/ovation
4) wiring & whatnot - $50

Leave the rear speakers alone. They are fine for rear fill.

let me know if you'd like some help: skydive814@insightbb.com

JP,

you make it to ovation yet? if so, did you see anything you liked? Again, if you need a hand, I've torn my X up a few times to install stuff so I've got some experience.

Hey All,

Looking to finally replace the stock 6x9's and according to crutchfield.com, 6x9's don't fit in the Xterra anymore but according to the mail catalog, there's one choice because your limited to the depth of 3 1/8. I find the lack of options hard to believe, so I was wondering what kind of 6x9's everyone here has? Keep in mind that i'm looking to use the factory location of lower rear panel only.
