Ok, here's what my budget and I have planned for my '05:

Leave tweeters in the dash
new HU with one pre-amp
6x9's- rated up to 40 RMS
6.5's- rated up to 35 RMS
260 Max watt, 4 channel, bridgeable amp (not sure how many RMS it puts out)
one 200 watt RMS 8" amplified Bazooka sub

So, aside from the usual wiring etc., is this doable? Will I be able to add the 8" sub to this setup? Thanks for the help.

that 4 channel 260 watt max amp is going to push out the same or a little more amount of power as the head unit. if you get a good head unit that is.

most aftermarket head units, push 22watts per channel, even though they say 40 or 50 x 4.

my math (may be wrong):
260max (cut in half for rms)=130
130 rms divided by 4 = 32 watts per channel

in my opinion you would be wasting money by not buying a better amp,or you dont need one to power those speakers.

I would in the least get a headunit that has 2 SETs of preamp outputs. if your adding a sub think about getting 3 sets. As for the amp, just remember a better quality, lower wattage amp will sound better than a lower quality higher watt amp. Lastly, a bazooka tube is what it is, nothing else. Some sound ok, some don't. It all depends what your ears like. Yes it is possible to ad the bazooka to the setup you listed.

RMS means Root Mean Square, not continuous power.
Even radios that say 18-22w RMS are lying as these ratings are usually given at 14.4v and 1khz, the easiest frequency to reproduce. Take an oscilloscope, mulitmeter, and throw in a little Ohm's Law, and WaaaLa! You won't find a deck on the market that realistically does more than 10-12 watts.

I would take a 20w x 4 outboard amplifier over a 50-60w x 4 deck any day. Open up a deck and look at the amplifier section of the circuit board. Look at the size of a 20-30w x 4 amplifier. Comparing a 2 inch by 2 inch square to a 10"x10" amplifier is like saying a Briggs & Straton lawn mower has the same Horsepower as a Corvette.

Get componets (tweeters & woofers in one package) for the fronts and ditch the factory tweeters.

Buy a quality amp and you will often get more power then what it is rated at. I just bought a 4x75 watt Alpine that bench tested at 4x100 and I also bought a 1x600 Alpine (sub woofer amp) that bench tested at 655 watts. I know this to be true becaue alpine includes a small index card where the quality control tester fills out the ACTUAL power vs the speced power.

If you buy quality you will get cleaner sound too which is better for the ears and your equipment. I would have quality any day over power if I had to choose one.
