#311596 - 25/02/05 12:15 PM XM radio compatability question

I am thinking about getting XM radio and want it to be seamless with no wires hanging everywhere. I also want good good sound quality since I have had problems with FM modulators in past vehicles. Has anyone used the Delphi FM Direct Adapter (SA10112)? It sounds like it is a good accessory but I wanted to see if anyone here had used it before.

We just put one of those in my wife's truck to run her Roady2 through. Sound is pretty good through the stock head unit.

Was the install hard and do you need any adapters for the stock unit?

It took me all of about 30 minutes to do. Here are the basic steps I did:

1. Remove console cover and center stack cover.
2. Remove stock head unit (or rather, slid it out to gain access behind it.
3. Used the included 12V outlet and tapped into the 12V outlet wires in back of the center stack.
4. Unplug antenna lead from stock head unit and plugged it into the FM Mod pigtail. Plugged the other pigtail back into the stock head unit's antenna jack.
5. Ran XM antenna wire up into the center stack from behind and plugged it into the FM Mod.
6. Plugged the Cig Lighter plug from the Roady2 into the 12V outlet I wired up previously.
7. Ran the antenna and power wires out just above the heat/AC controls.
8. Reassembled everything.
9. Plugged the power and antenna leads into the Roady2 and mounted it with the included vent mount to the left-hand center AC outlet (a temporary solution until my wife figures out a more permanent location).

Wish I had pics, but it's not too difficult.

Edited to add: No adapters needed. I know on the package, it mentions that some car stereos might need adapters for the antenna plugs. Nissan uses standard antenna connections.

Will you post pix of your final install and explain how it functions. Does all the control still come through the HU?

Also, pix of your antenna.

Thanks.

I have the SKI Fi 2, wireless. Only two wires, one for power the other for the antenna.
Took me 10 minutes complete install.

Here's a diagram of how it is put together. I'll get pics of the final install later on and post them.

The stock head unit still only tunes AM and FM stations. To select XM radio stations, you use the Roady2 unit to select stations.
