OK I finally got around to taking pictures of the power inverter install I did almost a year ago. I found a 300watt power inverter that I could fit nicely where the pocket is next to the 12v power outlet on the 2001 CC. This mod should work for Xterras as well and for at least 2000 models. I think that spot is used in regular and king cabs and I know it is nolonger there on 2002s.
It is nice to have 2 AC outlets in the dash of the truck. It looks almost custom and no destruction had to be done. It can be removed and no one would know that it was ever there.

The inverter is made by Xantrex and is called the "Jazz 300" . I found it at King Soopers for less than $30 I think. The best part about this inverter is it fits so well in the dash of crewcabs and XTERRAS.

I did not hardwire the inverter, though I could and still may. Right now it is run off a normal 12vDC plug (cigarette lighter type). It has several safty features that will shut it down if there is a surge, or is getting too hot. It also will not allow you to drain the battery; when it drops below a certain amount the inverter shuts off. This is particularly helpful if you are using the power point instead of the cigarette lighter outlet. The power point is always on where as the cigarette lighter is only on with the key turned to ACC.
