Thanks. It's been fun to work on when I find the time. I drove it about 20 minutes within a 2 mile radius of my house (read "walking distance") the other night. So it is roadworthy now. I do need to go through all the fluids before going much further than that. My wife still won't get in it yet though.

SOA huh? Are you keeping the 152, or have you got something else in mind ? I've decided to go shackles and BL for now.. My underside's just too pretty to start tearing up yet . Once it's good and worn in, I'll go SOA, and perhaps new engine, but for now, I'm being told the 152 with my gears and 33's will be quite useable ( and durable) I've seen the SKYJACKER and RANCHO SOA kits, using either of those? Oh, and where'd you get your shackles?

Congrats Roger! Dan - yeah, it's a 152 - I don't plan on swapping that out any time soon. With that, on 33's and 3.73 gears I figure it'll do well on the road and might be a little high for super-slow offroading but it'll do me for now. The SOA axles came straight out of a Scout 800. Previous owner moved the perches to the top, bought a Gryphin Racing Tierod and drag link. (my draglink just needs to be shortened at a machine shop - and maybe my pitman armed tapered a bit). I got my shackles from http://southwest4x4.net/. If I do my swap before you make any changes you could buy mine and save a little ( if I go back to the stock shackles, of course.)

Not sure where this one is (It's listed in the Phx section), but it's running and driving. Probably cheap! With a little work (or no work) it might be a good one! EDIT: From the seller: I am located in Black Canyon City, approx 30 miles north of Phx. I am asking $750.00 OBO. I have an offer of $500.00 at this time. If I wanted it, I'd offer $600. Not bad! http://phoenix.craigslist.org/car/110925294.html

Well, it's taking a little longer than planned, though what project actually does finish quickly? For the rear, only need a ujoint, ubolts, brake line... Then it's on to the front so it doesn't look like a drag racer. Old crap out: Dana 44 vs. Dana 27: Hey, the axle is now UNDER the truck.

Yeah, both were D27's. New ones are D30 front & D44 rear. Ummm...all I know about Plumbs is that is rhymes with "thumbs." Yeah, get started on yours - let's get these crap heaps on the trail and show everyone they do more than sit in our garages.

Funny part is, even with a '72, he's the young one in the crowd. '64, '66, and a '72. "Geritol presents 4 wheeling legends of the desert.."

Bring it where? Saw ya on the highway btw- What are you guys doing doing Saturday about noon? I was thinking of meeting another oldie but goody for some light wheeling/ exploring. A friend has an old FJ55 or what is known as a "Pig" and I was thinking of meeting him at Bloody Basin because he knows of ruins/ ghost towns in the area. Our trucks would fit in with all of that old stuff!

Next year - Next year for sure I'll invest some of my new found wealth in a Scout. I'll make it my new years resolution. Then it can sit in the granmother in laws garage / workshop for a few months for me to tinker with.
I'm going to invest in a welder and a few welding classes, so will be looking to an insanely cheap rust eaten one that runs, then I can weld new bodywork onto the thing, or do a little fabrication of my own. Always wanted to learn how to Weld.

Our trucks would fit in with all of that old stuff!Just bring it out! I dunno. Yeah, I kept thinking "why is that guy so close behind me and why is he trying to get up next to me? (Please don't have a gun, please don't have a gun...) and it sure looks a lot like Brian." Hmm.... Then I kinda forgot about you and was focused on all that dang traffic. Then the honking confirmed it was you. Hope all is well with the Mrs and little one. Roger - I'll keep checking in with you over the next year. Datz510 - nice looking truck. I was looking at one in Prescott about a year ago. $300 but it needed just about everything but the frame and body... I love those things, but unless you find one (or build one) with more common parts, they're a little over my head. I'd love to bring it out this weekend, but I'll be lucky if it's done by mid-January... That and I'm headed to Tucson tomorrow for the half-marathon. I gotta train for this crap once in a while!
