In another post I read that the November Xcursion will be the weekend of 11/19-20, and it'll be Box Canyon and camping by the Gila River.

I think I'll be able to make this one, can I get confirmation on the date & destination?

Thanks...

Can't go the 12-13. Anyone want to go camping 11/19-20?

I could have sworn the Xcursion was 19th/20th and included camping. But as the wife works Sundays I can't make the camp out, plus I have a 50th birthday to be at on the evening of 19th.

I leave the 12th and come back the 20th, so I can't make either weekend frown

(I was the lone vote to have the excursion on the 5th wink )

Well the website says next weekend! So that works for me, could have sworn we all voted on 19th/20th tho. I have a party on 19th so next weekend actually works better. Wife has to work on Sunday so still can't camp out tho, but I might come home on the Saturday night, then meet up with ya'll on the Sunday morning or somethin.

There is a gas station right across from Fort McDowell Casino that everyone usually meets at for trips out east.

And when you guys are out there, check and see if they have free air so I can add it to my list smile

Isn't Coke Ovens South down near Florence? I think we need to arrange a more southerly meeting point than Fort McDowell, which I believe is North of me and most of the folks on the East side of town.

I'll meet wherever, dying to get my X dirty and test out that 4 Lo dial / Locker button smile

There's a big Quick Trip on Hwy87 (Country Club) 1/2 block north of the 60. With free air! If we are heading South on Hwy 87, may I suggest that as a slightly more central meeting point. People heading in from the West / North can take the 101 or I10 to the 60, then head about 1/4 mile North on Country Club to the big Quick Trip. Lots O Parking and a good place to grab some snacks / drinks.

If possible I'd like to meet you closer to Florence. Since I'm further south, it's actually closer for me to just head out to Florence and maybe meet you at 79 and E Price Rd. That's the road that leads out to Box Canyon. Let me know what time you'll be meeting.

Uhh, yeah. F the QT. There's an abandoned TEXACO to meet at right outside of Florence, it's where everyone meets. I'll be back w/ proper directions soon smile

What's going on so I may update the Website?

I need Final Meeting place w/directions and time. Any additional info, I.e. FRS channel, snacks to bring, etc.?

I want to try and squeeze the update in on my lunch hour if possible.

Thanks,
Adam

P.S. I won't be able to make this run, I have to work. ALSO I've been busily trying to get all the pictures into the new gallery for the Xcursions. Check it out.

Any news yet on where the hell we are meeting? smile I have no idea of where Florence even is, other than it's South and East of me. I guess from Mapquest it looks like I'd be taking US60 out to the 79 south. Is this Texaco of which Dan speaks on the 79 somewhere?

I believe that the old Texaco is off of the 60 however the last time I was out that way you had to take an exit to get to the Texaco it's no longer on the 60 (construction go figure). I believe it's the same exit for the 79 you just head north and jogg down the old road to the Texaco. To get to the road leading to Box Canyon is about 14 miles down 79. Turn left imediately after the Railroad tracks. I believe the road is called E Price Rd. Then it's dirt roads out to Box Canyon.

Let's meet at the abandoned gas station on E US-60 (the old portion). Is 9:00am an acceptable meeting time for everyone?

To get there from Phoenix:
Take US-60 East to SR-79. Turn Left (north) off the exit ramp. Them Turn Right onto E US-60. Drive to the end and the abandoned gas station is on the left. Then we can follow the following directions to the entrance road to Box Canyon.

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=from%3A+21950+E+US-60,+Apache+Junction,+AZ+85218+to%3A+E+Price+Station+Rd+%26+N+Pinal+Pky,+Florence,+AZ+85232&ll=33.254121,-111.333218&spn=0.031571,0. 054957&f=d&hl=en

Thats also what i was thinking. I havn't really said anything b/c i know nothing about this trail.

By reviewing the posts.. it looks like we have 6 trucks thus far.

-Rinky
-Conundrum
-AZN8iveX
-ddamato
-Dbax
-Phxx

It seems to me that the boards are just dead... and it hasn't really planned out all that well.

Thanks David for taking the initiative to posting Directions to the meeting spot! I'm not sure what happened to Dbax.

9am sounds like a great time to me. Any Objections??

Adam and David and Dan, what are your thoughts on Camping vs. Daytrip? Are you all planning to camp?

Lets get excited!

I won't be able to camp this Xcursion, but there are plenty of places to do so. So my vote is for a daytrip.

What happened is I got home from work the nextday and David had kindly posted the correct directions, that is all.. :p

Looks like a good time for bonding amongst Eastsiders, I won't be making this trip either. I'm headed Norte w/ new girl for two nights of roughin' it at Poco Diablo.. Have a great time, and stay on the trail smile .

We could always elect to move it to next weekend. Then I'd be available for a morning run. If someone wants to go then I'd be game.

Let me know and I'll update the Website.

Don't forget to take pictures and put them in the gallery under the November Xcursion. It should be accessable to everyone. I have about 20 pictures left to apply from the October run that you all had in your own gallerys.

Well that sucks that barely anyone can make it! With this low a turn out I'm near reconsidering going myself now, I have a ton of decorating to do at the house ready for when I lay my laminate flooring at Thanksgiving. But I'm dying to get my X offroad too, but being real inexperienced off road and only being with a small group of people, it's starting to seem like less of a good idea frown

How challenging is this trail?

Well... Ok, we are down to 4 trucks so far. I too would prefer a day trip. So a Day trip it is.

David (ddamato) i beleive is the only one that has run this trail before.... so if he feels comfortable leading the way... then there shouldn't be a problem. smile laugh

Speaking of leading the way... What trail are we doing anyways? confused

Although... whats up with this Ratio?!?

Fuck it, I'm gonna go play golf in the morning and then do the decorating. Count me out tomorrow. Friends just invited me golfing and I've not played in ages. I'd prefer to go with a larger group of folks I know a little better anywayz.

I'm up for a morning outing to the White Tanks or anywhere nearbye next Saturday, but I have to be home by around 3pm for a 50th birthday party. I'll be at the meeting on Friday as per normal.

I'll be there and lead the way. We will go in through Box Canyon and head out to the Coke Ovens. If we feel like it we can stop by Martinez Canyon and check out the old Mill by the Mine. After the Coke Ovens we'll try to cross the Gila River if it's running low (which it usually is this time of year) and head out through the Diversion Dam.

By the way I don't have any radios so if anyone has one to lend I'd appreciate it.

As for the trail it has some technical sections that are easily spotted through. I've done it in a stock 2001 and a stock 2005.

I would have gone if there was more interest. Got a bunch of work done at home instead, no more nasty textured wallpaper on my lounge ceiling that the previous owner put up.

Don't suppose we have a Painter / Decorator or a Plasterer in the club? I need the ceiling shot with Knock Down textured plaster stuff now.

Oh, also, an update. After we got off the trail and were driving toward home, i notice that i had the 3 lights of death on. Battery, A/T Temp, and Brake. eek

I had never read anything about this on the XOC so, i didn't know what it ment, or if it ment anything at all. So jay stuck with me and followed me most of the way home, until he had to turn off, and i did make it home ok. So, thanks for you help jay cool Turns out after some research, the 3 lights together mean Alternator is going bad. So, i just got off the phone and ordered myself a Mean Green Alternator laugh

So, until that arrives, which will be tomarrow i hope, my X is out of commission. But hopefully i can get her up and running on wednesday again. smile
