Early in the AM, just a few hours. Gonna' run up and down the mistake mine hill-climb, and splash around a bit... My buddy Laurence is bringing his new 400hp custom built rail to rip up and down the washes. This things a blast! 2300+CC VW engine with Twin Turbos, Chevy 350 rods and pistons, custom suspension parts front to back.. It's a stroker and it friggin' flys, I'm still trying to wipe the grin off my face from this morning's joy ride PM me or call if you'd like to go, need directions , or whatnot

Hey John , I'd like to be on Grand by 6:30 and in the wash by 7:30. You know the trail too, if you're comfy driving a stock X back there, great. I'll do the driving up the mine trail though, Mmm-k?

Aye, it is the same mtn where you changed the tire. That was my first Xcursion too. So many good things have happened since getting this truck, so many great places and people. Ya' know, I was thinking you didn't have the X anymore too, I'd love to wheel w/ the Rover If you can make it, I think we'll meet at the gas station in front of the McDonalds in front of the Albertsons on the S/W corner of Reems and Grand Ave. 6:15-6:30 on Sunday the 31st of October, 2004 FRS14

I would seriously LOVE to rip up my front bumper Great! I know just the large immovable object with which you can do that. Coincidentally, it's how I tested my approach angle on the old brushguard the X came with. there's a number of choices for good ones to replace it with. You're not whistlin' Dixie pal.. C'mon XROCK, Gecko, Danimal, Asteroids, PHXX, XterraAZ !! And of course all you Far East side folks too Just 7-10, maybe 11?..Much fun for you, no charge! #1 special time!

Preston, it's a very easy drive (like a 2 w/ a maybe 4 section at the end(on a scale of 1-10) and an optional 6 or 7)You enter a wide, long sandy wash laced w/ quicksand . Great for long stretches of flat-out baja style desert running.( 2wd guys take note ) It narrows into a slot canyon which goes on for another 3/4-1 mile to the end(picnic/rest area) There's some nice little hills and trails to tool around on back there too. I encourage you and your lovely and talented assistant to join us. It might turn out to be just another favorite place Pic from trip there in mid July '04-

Wish I could make it. It's funny, because I was just in wickenburg fri night, and sat afternoon. I am in the process of installing some new upper a-arms, which have been a pita. To make a long story short the camber adjustment bolts were rusted tight in the sleeves. I had to order new bolts, and cut the old ones out with a sawzall. Those Chicago winters are not kind to vehicles. Well, have fun guys too bad I couldn't come.

That first picture hides a funny story. As we were making our way down the canyon, I'd noticed we were hitting soft spots more often . I was just thinking of stopping the train to turn back at/ on a stretch of firm looking sand ahead. I pulled to the end of the strip and stopped, GRNX stopped maybe 60-70 feet behind me, still in the slop. He immediately started sinking. I backed up to get a strap on him. Bewildered by the fact I don't yet have a hitch receiver shackle, he threaded the hitch pin through the strap eye :p . I yanked him up and out only to bury myself. PHXX came around the side to get on the firm strip and lined up to get a strap on me(DBAX). A few good tugs and I was free again. In the time I was being extracted now however, GRNX began to sink again. PHXX moved up, I strapped GRNX once more and we were all on semi-firm land for the moment. A couple of quick 3-4 point turns and we got the heck outta' there Great opportunity to practice quick response extraction technique (Than we climbed the mistake mine trail, but that's another story )

Yep - that was fun! Here's mine as well: http://community.webshots.com/user/azjohn100 (You'll see the album there). Nothing like a Land Rover on street slicks! Still did pretty well though.

Yeah, the free webshots accounts no longer allow displaying linked photos. They only allow the links to work. Anyway, fun trip - and people at work asked where I was showing property over the weekend after pulling into the lot near the front door. "Uhh...near Wickenburg - trying to find a good wash."
