Anyone with a capable truck want to head to Tucson and run a beauty of a trail?

Info:

http://nissan4wheelers.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/146605233/m/26310456141?r=39510923241#39510923241

You gotta be registered on N4W for the link to work.

3.5+ Capable trucks/drivers only.

Magazine...maybe.

Club Frontier is running this trail on the 26th. I can't make this run, but I plan to have the Fronty out there on the 26th run and if I'm lucky the X too.

If you can adjust the date any, join up with the Fronties. That's where Penski is from.

ugh, this this going to be a newbie question, but I am interested in joining, I know its off topic, question, but was wondering if I could come along. I think my stock truck could make it, but not sure.

Welcome. [Wave]

Probably not a good idea to take a stock truck on a 3.5+ trail. Just my .02.

If I can get the time off, I will be there. Trying to get as many hours as possible to get my SAS financed ASAP.

Yasha - Check ClubFrontier.org under the section "West". Pesksi is trying to get an easy trail picked out for the same date.

The Frontier guys are pretty cool. I wheel with Penski all the time (was even checking out his new bumper creation last night).

And back on topic. How is this trail rated. I've read it was easy till you get close to the falls than it comes to the very difficult parts. Is this true? And if so, how far would the hike be from the very dificult to the falls portions of the trail?

26th is for the race track smile ... You can make that one it's only a couple miles from your house.

27th was the proposed date for our run. The first weekend I'm back. But I'm flexible smile

Tim...would like to have you down on the run.

I'm needing more vehicles on this to make a good article, but as stated, this is not a beginner trail, from what I understand, however some of the tough stuff can be bypassed.

Scott, you are always welcome to ride shotgun...

...pending getting the day off from work.

Definately wanna hit this trail with you DR and the SWANKy crew. It's gonna be a great day of wheelin' out of the Valley. Maybe even get my little truck in a mag with the rest of ya'll!

I understand. just feels bad having stock right now, but anyways, is there a possibility, I can come out and ride along? I just would like to see if this hobby is worth pursuing, and see if I can meet the guys in the club. Thanks!

I'd be there in a minute if I wasn't in Yellowstone :p And if you guys make the mag be sure to let us know what issue smile

Yasha - My next run (end of october the soonest) you're welcome to ride along. I might even take both trucks out (one nearly stock Frontier the other heavely modded, but not as much as SWANKy's crew).

I know Penski and I will go back to Hackberry as soon as we can... We guessed it at 3.5-4 and I think the Fronty will come with too. Expect a good time and possible carnage. But worth every minute of it.

I'm sure if you wanted to ride along on any run there is always someone that has room and wouldn't mind a rider. I will be full up if Scott rides along. Keep in mind if you roll with the SWANKY crew, they are ALL running very modded and scarred trucks. AZXC run newer, mildly modified trucks for the most part. [ThumbsUp]

Hope to meet ya soon!

Yeah I'm heavely modded... And their trucks scare me eek

But I'll be sure to drop you a PM or put up a pust for my next run. And I usually run with a stock Yota now too (that guy can't stay off the trails and will do anything I do). But I almost always have plenty of room.

Yes, I'm alive, sore, but alive.

The X on the other hand, well only insurance is going to be able to make that determination.

I have to snap some pics and get them up hopefully today.

Million thanks to everyone for their support. You truely are the greatest friends I have.

Thank you Todd for taking me home, hope you found your way to Maricopa.

For those who don't know already, I rolled the X on the trail. We were able to get her running long enough to get it off the trail and towed home with the help of the Swanky connections and Tucson Off-Road.

I may have made the Magazine, but we'll see. Not the kind of coverage I had hoped for, but I know in my mind this was just an accident. Jay took some pictures while I was going down the hill and can't wait for him to send them to me so I can relive the moment (As if I haven't a thousand times in my head).

BTW - Awesome trail!

Drove it out. Given how violent it was the truck held up amazingly well, which makes me feel good about the safety of these vehicles.

4 Low No locker at the time, just a bad combination of off camber, slick rock with gravel on it, bad luck, etc.

Swanky crew were able to pull the rad core out enough to allow me to drive it out. I started overheating and JW is a genious. He wallowed out the hole where the hose barb broke off and stuck a Pen body into it giving us a spot to reconnect the coolant overflow line.

Parts so far are as first come, etc.

Defibvt - Rear Bumper
Yasha - Sliders

Items yet to cannibalize:
Shrock Skids
Shrock Rear Diff Cover
ETA - Daystar Lift (Spacers and shackles)

Everything above can be removed as they are all add ons or I have the stock to put back in place.

If it does get totaled and I'm not replacing it, I will let the stuff go to whoever is first with the cash.

Sorry I didn't get pictures up today, I've been sleeping off my aches, maybe tomorrow I'll have the time energy, besides it hurts to see it and take pictures of it. Brought a tear to my eye when Terra said "Xterra broken?" when she saw it. Just sad and breaks my heart to see it looking the way it does.

Wow! Glad you are ok Adam! I know exactly where you rolled as this is my weekend get away trail.. It does get quite tippy in some spots back by the falls. That hill is actually where I park most of the time! Once again, wow and glad you are ok!

Here's a pic of the X 2 years ago back by the falls:

The falls running 2 years ago:

A couple weeks ago on 3 feathers with the cruiser:

This trail is becoming so well known now! About 3 years ago you could camp up in that cave behind the falls and not be disturbed by anyone. Amazing how things change...

Well, I'm going to take my aftermarket stuff off tonite if anyone wants to help. I have a friend who is bringing his compressor over which should speed things up a bit.

Parts to remove:

Sliders
Shrock Rear Bumper

Today I woke up without pain, so I'll see how I feel after my regiment of Advil wears off.

Adam I just took a look at the pics over at N4W I know the truck is trashed but for rolling 3 times and end over end it does not look like it. the X looks like it is still in pretty good shape for what it went thru even with that much carnage.
So if I am reading the story right and looking at the pictures it sounds like you went down the hill backwards and maybe caught a rut that sent you over maybe. I know it was horrible accident but and I know from the pictures does not say much but the one with Andy in it the down hill does not look to bad. I guess what i am saying is what happened?
I am so glad to hear you are alright even though we have never meet in person you have given me some good advice. Not that I am being a sissy but those pictures make me want to cry. I beat that phone call home sucked!! uuhh honey I aahhh rolled the truck I have made that call not with as much damage but still.
Again I am so so glad you are alright.

Thank you.
Also thanks to Penkski for his help the other night.
Yeah the call to the wife definately sucked, she took it very well considering and I think realised that it wasn't something that should have happened.
I've played it over in my head a thousand times and just wish I would have just stopped when I knew I was in trouble and waited for help. Instead my gung ho attitude made me think I was going to pull it off, until I saw the ground coming up to the D/S window. I knew I was going over then, thought for a split second on putting the ol'hand out the window to stop it, but knew better.

It was basically all my fault for not waiting for help. Just very thankful that noone got hurt and there wasn't anyone at the bottom of the hill.

I hate those moments were right before it happens, which is always to late, a little voice says I should not be doing this.
If i read one of your post it sounds like you won't be replacing the X with another X or at all? even after the ill fated safety test showing us all how well built it is. LOL I would think about it to just because of the weak front diff.

I hope Adam replaces it. I know life gets in the way of wheeling sometimes. But, Adam has been a great guy to wheel with even the few times I have gotten a chance to go with him. And if he doesn't get another X or Nissan... I hope he still wheels in something with us smile

Thanks, but I'm beginning (although it pains me dearly) to think that I will not be able to afford to replace it. The insurance has basically said that they will only pay the fair market value and after satisfying the creditor, there won't be much left to even think about putting it down on another. Not to mention the fact I have a baby on the way (11/29) and need every bit of income I can muster. I would have made ends meet with the X, but now without it and the prospect of starting all over again on payments, I hardly think that would be the proper choice.

I loved wheeling with AZXC and SWANKY, it really hurts to lose out so much, but I hope someday I will be able to get another X or 4x4 and also hope that my heart and fears will let me do it.

I'll hopefully know in the next week or so, what exactly the insurance is going to do and will be able to let everyone know what my intentions are as well as if the Aftermarket stuff I have is available for sale.

Be safe all and especially wear your seatbelt. It saved my life, I truely believe that.

frown That really sucks, Adam. I know how much you love getting out and spending a day wheeling with everyone. I definately can see your dilemma though. Trucks are expensive and kids are too, thing is kids will bring you more joy than the best truck ever could.

You always have a seat available to you in my truck. [ThumbsUp] Just glad you are okay and will go on to eventually be back out on the AZ trails with us.

Adam, Datz510 has a really clean '91 pathfinder that runs extremeley well that he'll be putting a transmission back into. It's a high miler (181k), but it likely can be had on the cheap. It runs very good; it's clean, no rust, ice cold AC.... I also believe it has an open carrier H233B that would readily accept a cheap lockrite locker, and with all the guys doing SAS's, etc. lift parts, etc should be easy to find too. JY Ford pickup truck coils do a good job of lifting the back.

He bought it as a donor truck for the 5 speed transmission to put in his, and he plans to core the auto he had in the Pirate Ship for a rebuilt replacment, and put that back into the donor truck, so it'll have a new auto tranny.

Give this a little time to let the dust settle, have the baby, and give Datz a call.

Just because it's not an Xterra doesn't mean you can't have a ton of fun in it, and the risk is a lot lower on an older rig too.

Until then, we'll truly miss you on the trails.

Adam... You know I try to have both my rigs out as often as I can (the X and the Fronty)... I will gladly make room for you anytime in either.

I'm also totally willing to help you work on an older rig like suggested too... Some can be found for dirt cheap with a little elbow grease they could put your "old" X to shame.

Either way... Family first... I know you will take car of your own. And I'm sure there are a lot of us here willing to get you back on the trials with us too.

And don't forget about us smile

Congratulations on the new baby!! Family always comes first believe me I know that myself all to well. Your love for off-roading will always be there and the fear will go away with time and with that roll over probably right around the time you can afford a new rig it will go away. [LOL] [LOL]
Thought you could use a little laugh not to hard it may hurt.
