After corresponding with Xtoolbox about this topic I think that the original itenarary proposed by SCCX will be best for all.

TK1 and I (in TK1's X) will join the group on Friday night, camp wherever there may be a spot and on Saturday do Hell's Revenge and Top of the World. We will be returning to SLC Sunday morning. I believe we may also have another truck (boconn of UXOC) joining for the Moab portion.

Sounds like the party is already happening, thanks for letting us join in.

If we need ideas for camping, dinner, meeting locations lets get it rolling.

Thanks! laugh

Is it time to go yet?

Robert

Another post from me... [Sleep]

No Pre-GOX as of now.

Post-GOX attendees for Moab include:
Xtoolbox
UTJMAC
Xterrain
XID
Xrock
TK1 & fastdrmr
Steel_City_X
apwired
boconn

Refer to Xtoolbox's post for trips/trails. I think this still needs to be agreed upon.

Please post up if you want in or out. I will update this reply and we can iron out the details.

Robert

I'll be there, just for Lion's Back. I'll be happy to do other trails without preference. I just need to make sure I get Lion's Back under my belt.

Xterrain,
The end of Hells Revenge goes right by Lions Back. You also drive by Lions Back on the way to the trail head so you'll have ample opportunity to do it.....I'll watch.

Are we planning on meeting somewhere on Friday night?

If not, then where should we all meet on Saturday morning and at what time?

Xtoolbox (and any others coming from GOX to Moab),

Do you guys have a place in mind to camp? It would be nice to have a meeting place Friday night if you do/don't get a place to pitch a tent. Let us know what you have in mind.

Moab may be pretty full so whoever gets down there first could possibly get a spot or 2. If the popular spots are taken there are always other spots in BLM land.

FYI...

Moab KOA had Kamper Kabins a few days ago, they may still have Kabins or tent sites available.

As of today the plans are the following with the trail name, difficultly level, mileage and times:

9/6 Fri. run: Fins & Things & Porcupine Rim (3 ½) 1st ~ 2.5 miles of Fins & 9 miles of the Rim allow 4 hours.
Fri. run meet: 2pm on Sand Flats Rd. just before the entrance booth
Fri. night social meet: 8pm at the Moab Brewery on 686 S.Main St for some brews & grub

9/7 Sat. day run: Hell’s Revenue (4+) ~ 9 miles allow ~ 4 hours
Sat. day meet: 9:30am on Sand Flats Rd. just before the entrance booth
Sat. twilight run: Top of the World (3) ~ 20 miles roundtrip allow ~ 4 hours
Sat. twilight meet: 4:30pm at Wendy's on 260 N Main St

Camping:
At the Sand Flats Rec Area, with 150+ spaces there should be plenty of room $8 for 1 vehicle & 4 persons; $2 each additional person. 435-259-2100. They don’t take reservations but the Friday arrivals are going to try to grab the largest site(s) we can find for the group.

Communications:
FRS channel 9, subcode 24.

As far as Loins Back is concerned we can run that on Friday and/or Saturday before/after either of the runs since its close by both of these trails and takes only about 15 minutes after you pay the man his $5

All the trails listed have been/can be done with a stock 4x4 Xterra or Frontier with some spotting in places. The 4+ rating for the Revenge is partly due to Tip over Challenge, which you can bypass.

More info about Moab can be found at:

Recommended Moab trail guide book:

GOX & Moab are a really fun combo laugh if you're planning on attending please RSVP and indicate which runs and what nights you want to camp?

BTW I have a Moab Garmin Topo GPS .mps file I will post when I have a chance.

RSVPing...

All the runs sound fine(except Lion Back laugh ). I'll be staying at the KOA, so I'll meet up with you guys at Sands Flat Rd. at 2pm.

Are you planning on leaving Ouray and driving over to Moab on Friday morning? If so I'd like to caravan with you.

Is there a fee to get to any of the trails?

Andy

I plan on attending Sat Day run. Possiblly Fri, depending on if I'm missing out by leaving out Fri trail runs at GOX. I've never been so I don't know if the Fri scheduled ride with Ian are "can't miss" trails. Can anyone comment on comparing Fridays trail rides between Moab and Ouray?

I will be at the twilight run or the morning run.
Not sure which yet. I want to see Arches as well, plus I don't know about the 4+ rated trails in the am.

Is it possible to do Lions back in between the morning and twilight runs? I would love to see that- (might not have testicular fortitude to do it myself, but would like to see it)

The schedule sounds great! Count TK1 and myself in for the Friday night dinner and both runs Saturday!

Camping at the Sand Flats will be a blast!

Thanks for setting this up Xtoolbox.

I'll be leaving Ouray early Saturday morning, I've already paid so if anyone is interested let me know and we can caravan (Xterravan) to Moab for the Saturday run. I'll crash Saturday night then head back into Colorado on Sunday.

I talked to my girlfriend about Moab and she is gungho to do anything. We'll tag along with Xrock to Arches and meet up in Moab later Friday. We're throwing our camping gear in the truck and will plan on staying at the KOA or where most of the group goes.

The Garmin Topo GPS file can be found here and requires at least Version 4.08 of Mapsource which can be downloaded if you’re down rev. Originally created by XOC for GONE with my Porcupine Rim (PRIM) and Top of the World (TOP) additions.

UT,

If you haven’t run Poughkeepsie Gulch by Friday I would stick around for that fun one. There really is no comparison (totally different) in a good way between the trails in Ouray & Moab.

ROCK,

Yeah Lions Back is just a fun, short, and steep obstacle, so we can run it as many times as people want. Several trucks made multiple runs at GONE I recall.

XID,

Some of us are planning on leaving Ouray ~ 9:30am on Friday 9/6 for Moab and everybody is welcome to join the Xvoy. There is a $3 pass fee to enter the Sand Flats Rec area which is good for 3 days and Lions Back is on Private land so the owners charges $5 I recall. You can always practice/try Baby Lions Back at Sand Flats for a taste laugh

Thanks for the feedback. Depending on the trails, I may do Poughkeepsie Gulch earlier in the week. As of now, I'm planning on going on all the rides on Ian's itinerary since I'm a GOX newbie. Sure wish I had another week of vacation to run trails all over the area. I have to get Lion's Back under my belt. Will it be runnable on Sat? or are you not planning on being in that area after Fri?
