Paragon action park on the 6th, Shamokin on the 7th. Let Rich Bennett know by email if you want to go.

New Xterra owner here, and I was interested in checking out the Paragon trip on the 6th. The only problem is that I read on the Paragon site that you need rear tow hooks. What do you guys do about this. I looked everywhere and they don't make tow hooks for the Xterra. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

if you have a trailer hitch, that's your tow hook. Since your X is brand new, I'm assuming you're completly stock. A stock X has a tow hook up front. That will count towards Paragon's required 1 tow hook. Also, since your probably stock, I would recomend running group 1 trails. I think Ken will be on group 1 trails...plus maybee a couple more. Are you on NJAX groups list?? if not, check out www.njax.org, and sign up. Rich

RichNick Ken is not comming this weekened (he sad he had enough damage ;( ) if you got no hitch you can use spring hanger , as your rear tow point

That weekend I'll be finishing up my 30k service and probably removing my ARB to cut, hammer, weld, bend, smash or fix the Paragon damage to it. My Fender is all better (well good enough), and so is the grille and sidemarker. Hope you guys have fun. Watch out for the those treestumps, they'll sneak up on you. :p

Thanks guys, that's good to know I don't have to run out and get a hitch to do some off-roading.
CK, I'll have to keep an eye out for your X. :-)'
Also was wondering how much damage I might expect if I start off on a newbie trail? I just got the X in January and don't want to trash it right out of the gate.

Don't sweat that... We brought Jorge out to Shamokin in his 3 week old Black 02' SC. I think he had a good time.
And if you happen to see a Denim Blue X with a bunch of stickers on the back window, that's me. Feel free to wave.

Once I got over the heartache of seeing my X all scratched up. But it's covered in mud since then, I no longer see the scratches. You guys got me addicted. Are you guys going spending the night over in PA for the two days of offroading? ..jorge

RichRich, FYI... my X is stock....it did not come w/ a tow hook. I had to install them myself.

I am planning on making the Paragon trip on the 6th and taking the level 1 trails. I am a rank newbie at this business of DELIBERATELY driving off road - all of my previous experience has been on the "oops!" and "oh shit!" end of the spectrum.
Any suggestions? Hints?
I don't have a CB - will this be essential for the trip?

Not essential, but there's alot of conversation that will be going on that you may miss. We usually have somebody w/ a passenger who relays from CB to FRS.

Hey Wreckerboy, I'll be doing the group 1 trail too. Never went off roading so it should be an eye opener. What other gear should be brought along? (I can't find the link in the NJAX website under excursions )

I have a couple spare FRS radios that I'll bring along in case anyone needs one...OR goto radio shack and buy their $20 CB..we can install it at the staging area of Paragon...you usually sit around there for an hour waiting to get organized.

Dayspring, when I go to the NJAX site and click on excursions it only gives me two links to Shamokin pictures. I guess the website doesn't like my mac....LOL

The info for the trip is on the main page. As for the Xcursion link, that's just for PAST trips. A little boo-boo. As for FRS- it's Family Radio Service I believe. Think Motorola Talkabout.

I just picked up an $80 CB at radioshack for $25...awesome. Except the antenna cost $30, ouch. Thanks for the tip Rich. I'll wait until next saturday to have someone help me install it.

Well, if there's a day during the week that you're not busy, I live right in bridgewater. I've done a CB install, maybe I could help. And my stiffeners got shipped, so a hitch may need installing too.

Just back from Paragon. Freakin' awesome trip! I did the group 1 trails (my first time out) and the other guys did group 2. There were some challenges but nothing the X couldn't handle stock. Some dudes even managed to get a Hummer stuck. What a waste of $80,000.....LOL
Anyways, BorderPhreak, I see your running OSX, cool. I used to but switched back to 9 for the all around speed. On IE I feel I'm not quite getting everything to pop up, maybe I should try it on another system.

Shamokin was awsome, to put it mildly!
Thanks to Oleg for loaning a compleate stranger his FRS radios, and to Flytrap for going first on the trail - once I saw where he hit I knew not to got there! He did seem to get the hang of it pretty nicely as the day went on though.
I too was impressed how well a stock truck does with a little common sense, and not a lot of speed. Now if I could just get the rest of the mud out of the nooks and crannies .... ($9 later at the hand op car wash...)

Wreckerboy, Anytime you need a bushwacker you know who to call. All in all we did pretty darn good with our stock X's.....when's the next trip? Oleg, I'll get those radios to you asap, thanks.

To run Paragon again, all we need is a minimum of 3 trucks. They're going to their NoGuide status as of now. So pick a Saturday, and I'm there!!!!

Camp-A-While opens this weekend, but it's a good 30 minutes from paragon. There are some closer. We stayed at one this weekend that was about 10 minutes away. Luckily, we were the only ones there, because the sites are VERY close together. Picture an open field, with nothing inbetween the sites except for the utility hook-ups. There is another one in the area that I'll try to check out this weekend.

Ahhh, okay. That was the one I was thinking of.
As for the other one, yuck... We've got a campground on the Island here like that called "Wildwood." It's more like a grassy parking lot!
