Seems like a silly question but what tools are most commenly used in the field, just so I know what to bring to gone.

Your brain, if God gave you one laugh ... other than that, straps, basic tools (ratchet set, wrenches, etc...)... most of what you don't already have should be there in someone else's truck... if you have access to any spare tie rod adjusters, that's always a good idea... I'd call around to the local junk yards and see about those... a good spare... a hi-lift is nice, but again, someone else will probably have one if you don't... I think it came in pretty handy for Ivan (I think that's who it was) last year... don't forget your flashlight and extra water...

When I was 10 Mom said if I had a brain I would take it and play with it, ever since then, I have always been entertained.

If you have a complete set of tools like what is pictured below then bring them.

It's also a good idea to have the following:
  • fuses
  • flashlight
  • jumper cables
  • pliers
  • hammer/mallet
  • hatchet
  • air guages
  • duct tape
  • electrical tape
  • utility knife
  • bailing wire
  • small shovel
  • gloves
  • maps
  • Charles Wells\' Moab guide book
  • batteries
  • tire repair kit
  • zip ties
  • recovery strap
  • paper towels
  • trash bags
  • bungie cords
  • water
  • first aid kit
  • FRS handheld radios
  • cell phone
  • emergency phone numbers
  • fire extinguisher
  • roadside flares

And a big ole container to store it all in. Something like this:

Make sure you take care and secure this bin in your cargo area. The last thing you want is to have 50-100lbs of tools flying through the passenger compartment.

There's probably a ton of stuff I'm leaving out so feel free to add to it.
Good luck! See you in Moab! smile

Someone will probably have anything you need, but at least in the club I wheel with it's considered bad form to plan on being a mooch. So get at least a few tools.

Any jack that will allow you to change a tire is a necessity. A Hi-Lift only will work with sliders. Get a basic tools like a rachet set screw drivers and BFH. Also your own towstrap. They wear out, so using your own is better form.

Now these are the things I've used on the trail
basic tool kit
Pickle forks
Allen wrenches
screw extractors
floor jack
Makita
drill bits
hacksaw
propane torch
tape measure
Duct tape
coat hanger (or bailing wire)
fuse and spare wire
crimper and wire stripper
hachet
miscellaneous shackles
crowbar
racheting tie down straps
impact wrench and sockets
10lb C02 tank
paper towels
shovel

I've got a tire repair kit, but I've never put a hole in a tire that was repairable.

Alot of the things mentioned I have, with a few exceptions (pickle fork, spare tie rods, impact, I do have a floor jack but I have never carried one with me in the field). I hope this will be an enjoyable and learning experience. I think my wife would just shit if I called and said I need to charge X amount of money to fix/tow my rig, oh and by the way tell the hospital Im going to be late getting back.

I have been wheeling before but not at this level/distance. Pray for good times.

It's not that difficult, the slickrock gives good traction and there is no mud on stuff not like around here.

Add a floor jack and jackstand. I broke a halfshaft. Snapped the shaft off at the outer joint. I was able to borrow this stuff from Ian's neighbors. Otherwise there is a lot more to take apart. Still it was enough to prevent me from getting to Potato Salad and a taking a shot at it.
