Alright. So for those of you who remember, my Xterra was totalled in early October when I got broadsided and it flipped. So it's been a couple months of solving financial and legal issues with all of that. But I went out last Saturday and finally got a new vehicle. It's a Hummer H2.I did and still do love the Xterra, but I figured I needed a little variety in life, and after looking at the Xterra again, along with the Range Rover, Yukon, and H2, it came down to the H2 and Xterra. And in the end it came down to the H2 being larger and to my friends and family larger equals safer, so I went with the H2. Honestly though, I'm in love with it. Haven't had a chance to take it wheeling yet, but I plan to as soon as possible. But I'll keep hanging around on the forum. So I just wanted to say thanks for everyone's help. Josh.

you may want to break out the flame suit..

But seriously.. is it really safer??

I guess gas milage isn't a real issue either. I would be careful taking it offroad since you are a lot wider and long and getting high centered just got alot easier.

Not sure what you mean about the flame suit, and that link doesnt link to anything for me. And no, gas mileage is not a huge concern for me. I don't commute, and many of the trips I take are 5 minutes down the road. And as far as wheeling goes, the H2 is beastly off-road. Obviously the length and width have to be taken into consideration, but special considerations have to be taken with any car, Xterra or H2 or Jeep.

I think he meant this (based on what was behind his link):

Linky

Which ends up taking you to this:

Hello, There is an employee at a local market that bought a H2, going 55mph on the highway, a toyota made a left turn into his lane(Toyota was going into a LOOK-OUT area).

He(H2) roll the Toyota, and only minor scratches on the bumbers. (people in the car had minor injuries).

He glad he was in his H2 not his small pick-up.

H2 gets alot of LOOKS..Lots of aftermarket stuffs too. Bigger gas bill? for sure...but safer in H2 than a Nissan Xterra...if an accident happans.....Size matters here....Aloha

PS: Please stop by here? ...can I drive it!!!

Ahh yes. I remember that one. Buttt I tend to avoid doing 80mph anywhere, especially around schoolbuses, so I don't think that will be much of a problem. And Kona, one of these days I'll be sure to ship myself and the H2 on over to Hawaii for a while. (Seriously, I'm considering spending the winter season of next year with some friends on the North Shore, I just don't know how feasible it would be to ship an H2 over there for like 3 months.)

I guess for an extra $20,000 you should get a bit of safety.

Well, more than I got when an '03 Mitsubishi Eclipse broadsided me doing 35mph. Wrecked

Remember, you're tlaking about hitting something in the side. The H2 will roll too if hit hard enough from the side. Question is, does the H2 have a roof structure that is as robust as that on an Xterra? We've seen time and time again that the Xterra has exceptional roof structure strength. It's good to avoid rolling, but it's also nice to know that if it does happen, your roof will hold it's shape! Also, larger size does not necessarily mean better safety. There is much more to it, including avoiding an accident. Honestly, I don't know about the H2 in either respect; just a thought or two.

That said, if you're happy then that's great. personally, I never did, still don't, and never will understand the attraction. I would rather have 3 Xterras. Why not just save some money and get a Tahoe? It's essentially the same thing, but less expensive and way better looking. Or even a bling bling Cadillac Escapade!

By the way, be gentle with it offroad. A friend of mine has a GMC HD pickup that he loves (I think it's real nice too), but the front suspension and driveline are weak. It's a good thing he bought an extended warranty because he's had the whole front end rebuilt in stages... ball joints, tie rods, bearings, driveshafts, etc. Now this week the transfer case is being replaced. And he doesn't drive it offroad! The truck is spotless and well maintained.

True true. But the H2 has the width that helps it prevent rolling, not to mention it weighs like 6,700 lbs. So I think it would be a lot harder to budge than the X was. And I'm pretty sure the H2 has a pretty solid roof, I've only ever seen one that ended up on it's roof, it rolled off of Lion's Back right at the starting point, I think it was somewhere around 15 feet to fall, and the roof was obviously dented and would need new roof racks, but it held its shape fairly well and protected all of its passengers.

And as far as choosing the H2 over the others, I've already had an Xterra, and I like variety, and I can't stand the look of the new Tahoe and Escalade, the new '07s are leaning way too far towards the bling side than the ruggedness of the '06- Tahoe Z71. I much prefer the looks and capabilities of the H2. Not to mention you can't beat heated leather seats front and back, TV screens with separate DVD players in the headrests, navigation system, Bose Premium stereo system, and owning one of only 400 Glacier Blue H2s that will ever be made.

As far as being careful off-road, so far the one and only complaint I've heard about the H2 is that the tie-rods are prone to problems, but other than that everything else seems to hold up quite nicely. But I guess only time will tell.

Who the hell compares a Range Rover with an Xterra? confused It costs over 3 times more than an X.

I do, because I love the X. And IH8MUD, that's already been posted, on here, and on sites all over the world. I'm fairly sure it was determined that the H2 in that picture was being driven by a jackass, moving at a very very high speed. And the jackass driver managed to get out injured, but he survived. So correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that if anyone was ever stupid enough to drive an Xterra the same way, the lower height of the Xterra probably would have decapitated the driver. I don't really know of any vehicle, X, H2, or any other, that could have plowed into a schoolbus at that speed and not suffered some pretty significant damage.

It doesn't matter what you wheel in, just as long as you're having fun. Enjoy the H2 dude.

Whenever my wife and I are out and about and I comment about an H2, my wife always says something to the effect of "I feel sorry for his wife."

Just sayin... laugh

Good luck with it. I personally think they look like ass, but that aside they are pretty decent SUVs (if you can handle a GM). [Wave]

Unfortunately pornography isn't tolerated on the forums here, otherwise that belief could be put to rest. wink . And as far as handling GMs, my family has owned GMs since I was 5 years old, and I have no complaints about any one of them, so no problem there.

Good God, son...READ WHAT YOU JUST SAID...all I EVER see on an H2 is blinged out crap.

I've seen a couple H2s on their roofs round here...or what was left of their roofs...but whatever, its your choice, I just hope you figure out that you made a poor decision (unless you really ARE compensating for a small penis) before you lose too much value on that POS.

Haha, alrighty then. I was willing to stay on here, because as I said, I still love my Xterra, and wish it wasn't a cube of scrap metal right now. But if that's the way you feel, then I'm sorry your jealous that I bought a $70,000 car that is far more luxurious and capable on and off-road than yours, and if you feel the need to go back to the same old Hummer owners are compensating for lack of penis argument, then I pity you, because you all talk real big, but tonight I'm going to ask all of your wives how you really measure up as I bang 'em down the line, one by one. i got a buddy of mine in virginia beach who's using his roommates H2 while he's on deployment. picked me up from the airport one day & i must say, he payed a ton of money for a whole lot of nothing. its just a large metal box that looks rugged, and thats about it. its not even a Humvee, it only looks like one. also, its not all that special or expensive [URL=http://auto.consumerguide.com/auto/new/reviews/full/index.cfm]consumer guide gives it a 2 out of 10 (to be fair they gave the xterra a 6 of 10). and while the my X might get less than sedan quality gas mileage, i've been rear ended w/ only minor bumper paint scrapes & bend and t-boned and only got body damage & front left wheel damage and nothing happened to me. Dbax got in a head on collision & nothing happened to his interior, him or his wife. as for either vehicle, well, the weight (all 6700 lbs you say for the H2?) will be supported by the roof which isnt designed for such a weight. physics takes over & occupants loose. i'm glad you found a vehicle that you like, but dont kid yourself dude, its looks.

BTW, this is a Humvee:

I'm fully aware of what a Humvee is, and I would never in a million years want one, I prefer to drive in comfort, not have a turbodiesel sticking up between me and my passenger. And I don't know what this whole thing about ending up on the roof is about, this thing is so wide and heavy that I would think it would be pretty hard to end up on the roof. And as far as it being a big metal box, it's a big metal box that comes with one of the most advanced 4 wheel drive systems on the planet, 35" ATs from factory, over 10" of ground clearance, DVD players in the headrests, a navigation system, Bose premium sound system, heated leather seats front and back, and I'd take its looks over the Humvee, the 1st gen Xs, and just about any other capable 4x4 out there. So obviously you pay for what you get, but there's not really a whole lot out there that can get you more bang for the buck IMHO.

Yes, my parents did pay for the H2 also, you fucking tool. And considering my H2 is one out of 400 others like it, I don't see it depreciating all that much.

i wanted to stay out of this because I actually do like the H2, but you are a fucking idiot if you think that it won't depreciate too much just because of its color

If I had that kind of money for a H2, I'd get a Defender 90 or stick with a X. Off course, with the money saved, you could/would adore it with all that killer SLR and Shrock goodies.
