Does anyone have headers on the X?
Brand? Price? Likes or dislikes?

You're not the first to ponder the idea. Search the term "header" and you'll know all there is to know:

Thanks for the info but I did a search and only 4 things came up. Neither of the 4 answered my questions that is why I posted this

Suffice to say, SLR and (as yet unconfirmed) Nismo are the only header offerings so far.

Sh** dude chill! Yes it was 4 but I figured out what it was 4. I guess we all don't have the time that you have to be on the web.

2 firedepartments, lawn care business and my daughter keep me busy. Looks like you need another hobby.

As for all the links you posted..... thanks. That will save me the little time I have to do my homework.

Hope. We still have old faithful. My wife took it over and has been driving it back and forth to the Nissan Plant for work.
I ended up with a 03 Chevy Z-71, but I still have 2 rx7's, Ninja ZX6r and my 77 FJ40.
Selling the Z-71, the Zx6r and the FJ40.
Now that I have a little girl my views have changed a little.

Why? So you can show your ignorance as to your understanding of the stock cats, their flow and what they actually do?

Why don't you get educated, and [Save the fine unicorns] .

Actually, folks just call me Trav....

My bikes are all 4 stroke now. But that's a different discussion.

The stocker cats flow great, and there is no reason to change them out for anything bigger, unless you plan on going twin turbo Flycacher. Do you? You plan on a couple of snails under the hood to get away from 'ol Roscoe there Bo Duke?

Probably not.

I know that not only Pacesetter, but Magnaflow and Dynomax also make them. Having to massively modify them to fit your X, then getting absolutely ZERO benefit from them because you don't flow any better, well, that's just pure stupidity!

You wanted an answer, and now you're crying when someone tells you that it's a bad idea. That's tough. Really, get over it.

Flycacher- why would headers be incompatible with the stock cats?

One of the biggest advantages of headers for VG33 engine owners is that they permanently solve the cracked exhaust manifold/stud breaking problem. Even if they didn't also offer some kind of performance advantage, with or without high-flow cats, that might be worth it to some.

I belive the position on the primaty cats, right under the stock manifolds is not compatible with headers.. They would have to be moved elseware..
All things considered, I doubt even the hyper accurate Butt Dyno could tell the difference between stock cats, high flow cats, and no cats..

Indeed, the primary/upper cats actually begin ALONGSIDE the rear exhaust port, not even below it I don't think. There's just no room for anything but a knotted pretzel of short tubes between the stock cats and the exhaust ports.

As much as I love looking at a header, listening to suttle changes in sound from a header, watching a ss header change colors after use, it just does'nt make any sense money or performance wise on a X. That is unless your VG33 is "built" :p

Now that I have stated the obvious this is probably a good place for this thread to die eh???

Let it die with your profound observations?

Uhm, no.

A quality thermal coated header will not see the same color changes as an uncoated header.

As a matter of fact, My buddy at JP has been getting a few e-mails inquiring about the headers and I'm guessing that XPLORx4 might be behind the idea that a Nissan Parts Distributer is inquiring as well.

After a few more questions get answered we might well be on our way to getting the ball rolling.

He's been slammed with recent projects lately.

The idea that you can keep all the cats on an X if you go with a tight 12 inch shorty header like the one I described earlier looks like a strong possibility. It should be able to pass smog since you are keeping the cats and should see gains of 10-12 HP when combined with an exhaust system.

XPLORx4 - what are the significant differences between the X and your pathy space wise and cat wise that would make both pieces compatable? Would an X header be a direct fit with the Pathy?

The R50 cat mounting on the exhaust manifold has a large (about 5" or so) opening that bolts directly to the manifold with 6 bolts. It comes out the back of the manifold, then goes to the exhaust.

The X manifold directs the gasses to the middle of the manifold, then goes out a normal sized hole to the cat (about 2½" or so) with 3 bolts. The cat then runs down to the rest of the exhaust, front tube expansion chambers, etc.

I don't think they'd be interchangeable at all. The Pathy unit would need the Pathy cat, the X header wouldn't be able to adapt to the Pathy cat due to space. The Pathy header might be able to get adapted to fit the X cat, with an adapter, but it wouldn't fit in the X space either.

Looks like totally seperate pieces would have to be fabbed up.

Call it whatever you want to but I consider them facts, do you disagree?

Your absolutely correct, if your referring to a ceramic header I assume. My experience with ceramic headers are that they last roughly 1/2 as long as a quality ss header and are more prone to rust. If you've experienced otherwise I'd like to hear more about it. Also you mention a new setup adding 10-12 hp WITH a new exhaust. I love adding more power any way I can, but where are you going to notice 10-12 more hp, on the freeway passing someone at 75 mph? Like I said IMO it aint worth the $$$.
