I am considering getting the SLR shackles and cranking the front bars in order to fit 32's as well as level the ride (due to winch and ARB). Not too long ago I upgraded to Bilsteins - front OE, and rear OE w/o swaybar. Will I have to get new shocks again or is there enough room in them to keep them

Thanks

Jason

You can keep them, but in the rear they will limit your droop. SLR has Bilsteins that are longer to make up for the shackles.
Up front they have shocks that are valved for stiffer t-bars, which might be an improvement, but not necessary.

I have always heard that and was very hesitant to install AAL's but to my delight, they are great. My ride is actually better than it was without them. I would suggest them before getting the shackles as the shackles will flatten out your springs after a while. BTW I still have both AAL's and shackles on my truck.

I agre w/Philo. The ride is slightly smoother. BTW & FYI, with this Rancho AAL, you completely remove the flat load leaf on the bottom of the springpack. I believe, however, that people who tow/carry heavy loads haven't had any problems thus far.

I have the SLR Shackles and the Rancho add-a-leafs installed on my X...

I raised the back end 4 1/2" by doing both installs...

I installed the add-a-leafs for the off-roading hieghth advantage...

I installed the rear shackles so that when I load my X down going camping, I will have plenty of clearance remaining...

Most X owners do one or the other...But if you can't make up your mind, then install both...It's cheap...

Good Luck

With 4.5" lift in the rear is it possible to level out the front by only cranking up the torsion bars?

No. I have both the shackles and the add-a-leafs, and my springs have sagged about 2", and I still can't get my truck level. It's okay though, the rake isn't too extreme. On a newer/less trashed truck, there's no chance you could install the AAL's and shackles and have it sit level just from cranking t-bars. Well you probably could, but you'd be compressing the upper bumpstop at nominal height, have no downtravel AT ALL, and nuke your CV's in 10K miles or so...

I'm planning on waiting and getting the T-Bars and AALs at the same time. But, I have to get skid plates first. =-)

Just got my EOE Sliders installed.

I plan on getting a 3" suspension from AC. They provide AAL with their kit. Can I install another AAL and would that give me a 5" lift in the rear thus adjust my torsion bars to even it out? Can I do this?!!

Anyone have the part number for the Rancho add a leaf? Did a search, no avail. www.gorancho.com no help, called their 888 number and they only sell it with the complete suspention front and rear kit. Local Indy 4x4 parts shops no help. thanks.

I had already posted this in Backyard Mechanic before you gave me the link, but no one replied yet. Thanks for the link, Ned946, but those read Fabtech. Are Rancho and Fabtech the same company or carry the exact same part?

"Just ordered the Fabtech HelperSprings from www.xterraparts.com I called local Indy 4x4 parts stores and they said none in stock, Trailmaster, Superlift, and RANCHO do not make 'em for the X. I told them they were wrong. Anyone have the AAL Part # from Rancho? Used Search and found some who used the Toyota AAL. Is that what you all are using? Company and Part#? Just called 1-800-574-6357 (Rancho's phone#) and they say they only sell the AAL with the full suspention kit(front control arms etc and rear springpacks etc minus shocks). What gives?"

(Just putting this in the right forum).

"FabTech HelperSprings (AAL) should be here Friday or monday. Will install and test run at Haspen Acres, in Laurel, Indiana. Anyone have these? are they as good as other companies AAL's who apparently don't make them or won't sell them to me?"

Also had the local Indy4WD call Fabtech and find their AAL's. When he called me back, he said they only make one for 4x2. I gave him part #FTS204 from xterraparts.com and he said that's the same one. I asked him what the difference in suspention btw 4x2 and 4x4 and he didn't know.

Not sure where I got this but I think the Rancho AAL part # is RS6592.

The Fabtech( and I believe ProComp) add a leaves are much thinner than the Rancho's, they probably will not give you as much lift or the same spring rate. There also have been a few that have cracked, Carlton is one that I know of that has had problems with them. I don't have the Rancho part number with me but I don't think that is right.

FSR,
Any more info on the correct Rancho AAL part number? I, too, just called Rancho, and as was previously said, they only show as part of the complete kit -- not sold separately.

I am progressively bottoming more and more on my bumpstops (right rear is worst), even with the Bilstein's, so want to do something SOON.

Thanks,
LJ aka BL

I believe AC/4x4parts.com sells the Rancho AAL's with their kit so maybe that might be of some help for all of you looking for them??
