Hey, all - question!

Anybody ever had their X "dribble" a little fluid from the rear diff fill or drain plugs? My brand new X seems to dribble a TYYNEE little bit right after it's parked, but then it stops immediately. A buddy of mine who built the 9-inch in my pro-street Mustang told me that the newer diffs, especially ones with the gasketless threaded plugs, can "fart" a little fluid if they're topped off. Otherwise, I am completely in love with this little truck.

Had it fixed under warranty a couple of weeks ago. Common, they say. They just replaced the fluid and re-gunked the drain plug. So far so good.

Thanks, Gary - it's good to know that it's a common issue. I've barely had my X a week, so I'm going to run it around a while and go about my business, and then perhaps have the fluid changed under warranty when I get my first few grand on the odo.

As long as it's just enough to moisten the surface, it's no big deal. If you see drops on the ground or the like, I'd get it taken care of. All they did when I took mine in a couple of years ago was tighten the plug, but it started again a few months later. Later when I changed the fluid, I used a sealant and it didn't start again for a good long time.

There are some drops, but it's only been a week, and this X is BRAND new. My mechanic buddy indicated that if the diff is topped off, the fluid cam "migrate" across the threads of the fill plug and seep a little bit. If it continues, I'll drop by the local dealer and have them take a look at it. Based on my searches here, it seems to be a problem that occurs largely with the newer "headless" plugs.

There are no paranormal forces involved - it's just a minor and easily fixable leak. Consider yourself lucky if that's the only thing that goes wrong!

To clarify: it was a slow build-up, oozing out enough to pick up a lot of road debris and cause that big, black, furry soot that you see on old diffs. Took about 6mos. Definitely didn't notice drips (only noticed the leak when the RR shock started pissing fluid onto the asphalt at work).

If you're noticing staining on the ground from the drips you really should take it in right away. :-o

Mine did the same thing. The dealership fixed it, no probs now.

Thanks to all who gave input on my rear diff question. I had time the other day to run by the local dealer to get my dribble checked and, sure enough, the fill plug wasn't as tight as it might have been. Seems to have stopped now, though.

Mine leaked enough to leave spots on the ground. The dealer's repair was to wrap teflon tape around the plug. The plug was tight without the tape but still leaked.
