#422193 - 25/09/06 06:10 PM Why is my front end lower than the rear?

Hey all, I am a new Xterra owner of a 2002 xe, and I am wondering if anyone can x-plain why my front end sits about an 1inch and a half lower than my rear. At first I thought it was normal but as I continue to look around at other Xterra's out there I dont' think it is. It is completely stock, with BFG AT Ko's 31x10.5.

Secondly How do I raise the front end to sit level, and if I do will I need to get another wheel alignment?

Thx

its made that way.

do a search for t-bar crank, that will tell you how to even out the xterra...best of all, its free... the search and the tbar crank.

1.5" low is a bit lower than normal...normal is more like 1".

You should get an alignment when done cranking the t-bars....mostly because other things can shift over time as well.

I have an inch rake and an inch lean with the passenger side lower.

I think this is normal?

The lean isn't. Mine was that way for a couple of years because I didn't think it could be adjusted and never asked. As mentioned above, search on cranking t-bars. I was really happy when I leveled my truck out.

I got new tires so it is being aligned on friday.

I can crank the tbars to level out the front but the back is about an inch off as well. I suspect that gas has something to do with it.

alot of trucks have a lean. normally caused by the gastank. gas weighs a little less than 8 pounds per gallon. so the bigger the tank, the more potential lean.

if that doesnt upset your OCD, then also remember that most people drive by themself. so there is 175lbs(varies) on the drivers side. does this cancel the lean? get a buddy and see.

I figured it was the gas in combonation with the weak rear springs. I love getting high beamed when there is stuff in the trunk. I actually think i need to find the post on adjusting the headlights.

Anyhow, i played around last night and got better measurements. It was a good day, helped my buddy wire up lights on his 04 x and fixed the front end on mine almost a mod night. shocked )

Anyhow i got it to this

34 5/16 front driver
33 12/16 front pass
35 5/16 rear driver
34 7/16 rear pass 3/4 tank

DIfferences of
1 inch rake driver
11/16 inch rake pass.

9/16 lean to the passenger front
14/16 lean to passenger rear.

Alignment is being done tomorrow so i will mention it to the dealer when i go see if they can get it any better..

I think this accounts for most of the "lean" that there is.

Also, if you are wanting it perfect, you will not get it perfect, and you will kill yourself trying to get it perfect.

Yeah i know perfection requires many changes and a lot of time. I am just looking to have the heights correct. When our 2 x were in my garage yesterday, you could definitly see that my front passenger side was significantly lower which was why i made the adjustments. That and knowing it was getting algined would correct any tire mis adjustments caused by the cranking.

I know my fat load in the drivers seat levels it out for the most part. In fact maybe i should raise the drivers side more [LOL]
