Good point.

Ian, I agree that Joel did not state this was a safe practice. He did state that his X handled great, so I assumed he did not find this to be unsafe.

I took Joels comment to mean the Xterra handled great compared to how he described it before changing the steering. He said his first configuration was a nightmare.

No Xterra will handle great without a sway bar. Even with a sway bar, it's a big wandering SUV.

That's a great example of how one statement can be taken different ways. I've asked Joel to clarify, for my own curiosity, as to why he took the swaybars off. I haven't done any mods to my X yet as I have been compiling opinions and experiences before I attempt anything.

I do appreciate the mature conversation. I have to admit that is not what I expected after what I've been reading here.

Everyone is treated fairly until they get stupid laugh

If you want to see how the Xterra handles without sway bars, don't take someones description, simply take them off and drive around a bit. You'll be putting them back on in a hurry.

I just came back from the ECXC this past weekend and my driver's side sway bar mount is crushed in a bit too. Bent the little tab on the bracket that holds the bar on the mount too.

I doubt this is a good comparison, but..

A friend of mine had a 90's jeep. He had a pretty substancial body/suspension lift on it, teraflex, explorer procomp, etc..

He had both his swaybars removed, and when he took a curve at like 5mph, the whole body went diagonal. looked kinda scary. It did great offroad, but he even told me he was planning on putting the bars back on for the way home.

Like I said, probably not a good comparison, but from the way his leaned, I'd rather just keep the front one on during road use and have quick discos or even remove them both during offroading..

Later wink
