I thought you said something about the ride with the SLR Lift being a lot better. Can you elaborate on that (or confirm/deny it)? Also, what stage did you get?

Ian, I'm currently deciding between going the 2" SLR shackle mod, or the full-blown 3" lift that you purchased. Any feedback would be appreciated.

He purchased it with work instead of money. I think it would have been a lot easier to just buy the kit than to put in the amount of work he does for this board that got him the kit... "free"

More precisely - he traded the kit for 2M ad impressions for Spencer Low Racing on XOC.

The review probably would've come one way or another eventually and/or anyway, I'd think.

True, but without XOC's success, Spencer never would have made that trade. And XOC's success is the result of Ian's hard work.

not necessarily true. do you know how many sets of shackles SLR shipped after Mr T/philosopher and Gothamist posted their review of SLRs shackles on the different boards??? a ton! and that had nothing to do with the success of XOC. SLR could have picked anyone of the hard core guys on the boards and had close to or the same results they are going to get with XOC. that being said, Ian is just in a damn good spot to be able to do what he did, you cannot fault him for that.

It is the "objective review" part that has people suspect. I personally am going to wait till I see the review to pass judement.

I don't really see your point since none of the other "hard core" guys own a board on which to put ads. As BP said, they traded it for ad space. But this I do know: some of the "hard core" guys on this board have already bad mouthed SLR for different reasons. Some of those reasons I'm sure are justified, but justified or not, to SLR (or any other company on the planet) it's a business decision. They aren't going to give free stuff to someone who's spreading bad press about their price hikes or the problems with their steering stabilizer.

I'm not saying that Ian's not going to be objective about his review. I'm just saying they aren't going to start giving free stuff to guys talking bad from the beginning. And don't get pissed at me--I just know how business looks at the sponsorship game.

I'm guessing SLR's lift is good stuff and they know it. I think they gave it to Ian knowing he'll be happy with it and will hopefully give it a good review. Then they get some ad space out of it too and everyone is happy.

Hey John,
Thanks for posting the differences in the lift kits. But my curiosity got me looking at the SLR webpage. It has the spring pack coming with the Stage 2 and the torsion bars included with Stage 3 only, you had the picture showing different. Just thought I'd point it out.

People, let Ian post his review first before we hang him out to dry... This is the proverbial "dead horse" until we actually see the results.

Yes, he *might* color his review for whatever reason, but that's mere speculation. It would do more harm than good if he did so. So give him a chance, read the review - then take it from there.

I for one would love to see a review, any review (or personal account) of the lift kit, as I'm thinking about the Stage I kit, personally. Certainly shocks-n-shackles if nothing else.

1) How many people are really going to read the review and buy one anyway - they are expensive so probably only a few.

2) Would any of you pay that much for it after reading only one review of the product? I personally research the hell out of stuff before I buy expensive items. And since there aren't any other reviews to date, I'll let someone else use there X as the test monkey.

3) Let your logic be your guide, if you don't trust the review, don't buy the lift - simple.

How many people have known Ian to do anything other than speak his mind...

BoarderPhreak: who is hanging him out to dry in this thread? no one. as i said, i am waiting for the review myself. all i said is that some people are speculative, stating the facts. please read more carfully next time.

ILUVMYX: and if you reread my post i do say that i understand it was a business decision. all my point was, that other people could do what Ian is doing as far as testing and review. but ian has this "business" and more power to him. no worries. and as far as me saying SLR would get the same "results" i meant greater sales of the lift kit, not ad impressions on a web site.

I am not slamming Ian or SLR in any of this. if i were in his position i would have done the same thing. most of us would.

I wasn't disagreeing. I was just adding why I thought SLR would pick Ian over the other potential hard-core off-roaders.

I agree with Brent - Ian speaks his mind. If there are improvements needed in the kit, I expect he will say so. I also think SLR will make changes if needed.
The other thing to consider is that it is hard to 'hide' a faulty suspension when you're out on the trail with others. Can you hide a broken part? Can you hide limited articulation or getting stuck when others get thru? I don't think so.

dave and Xtoy - we'll see
