I've installed a 3"SL on my 2004, the lift consisting of UCAs and rear shackles, and I am getting tire rub on the front fender well. Will a 2" BL take care of this problem? I am running 265/75/16 BFG MTs on 16X8 Mickey Thompson Classic IIs. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

265/75/R16 Firestone Destination MTs on AR 16x8 with 3" lift. I removed all the plastic interior trim (inside the wheel well) and the plastic strips to the outside of the well, and the front mudflaps too. Then I rolled back the metal around the wells gently with a plastic mallet.
There's no more rubbing. smile

Oh, Yeah. The 3+2 lift will clear the "32's" even 33's with trimming. You might set out your steering stops also..

My 265/75/16 Firestone Destination M/T's fit my 2002 with a 3" susp. lift, without any metal mashing... so far. smile They did require a bit more trimming than the 265/75/16 Bridgestone Dueler AT Revos though.

I have removed the mudflaps (the day after I bought it) and trimmed the plastic behind the tire. I have a Shrockworks bumper that takes care of clearance issues to the front of the tire.

Where are you getting the rubbing? Is it something that you could remedy by trimming the plastic with something like a dremel? Is it an issue with the backspacing of the rims?

im getting rub on the back part of the fender well. I removed the mud flaps and trimmed the plastic on the front but when i turn the wheel it is hitting the back pretty good I think i should order a 2"bl just due to upward travel issues that are gonna arise, but do you think this will solve the rubbing problem? ill go take a pic and post it here in a bit.

thanks Dave

If you email them to me... I can post them... or if you look in the Pictures forum... there is a sticky thread about posting pictures. (email is jlyohe@yahoo dot com)

Also... superjens (XOC member) offers free hosting for any Xterra related pics and such.

When I had some aftermarket rims on my X they rubbed really bad, so I cranked the tbars and they still rubbed but only at some compression. I couldn't stand it so then I got some stock rims with 5.25 backspacing/offset, and now no rubbing. I think instead of cutting the heck out of your wells or having to do a BL which is not the easiest thing to do you may want to try to find some factory rims. Or do the BL and then make your X a big monster which would be cool too.

how difficult is a 2"BL to install?

Its your wheels. 32" tires will work with 4 3/4 backspace and only have to trim plastic. 32s will work with 5 1/4 backspace and no trimming at all.

Didn't I read somewhere in here that 265/75/16's will fit on a non lifted X too?

10 Bolts and takes about 6-8 hours if you have never messed with the items.

so in ya'lls opinion a 2" BL would fix the problem or do i need diffrent wheels? The X looks awesome so if the BL will make the tires clear i'll go that route besides its cheaper to get a 2"BL then a new set of wheels.

2" BL should fix it cheap and easier overall in my opinion.

2 " BL From AC

My apologies, I was gone for the weekend.

After looking at the pictures, I think that your problem is definitely the backspacing. (I'll get them posted tonight so that everyone can give their opinions as well.)

If that is the case... a body lift may... or may not fix the problem, most likely, it will not.

I recently put on some 265/75/16 BFG AT/KO's on my non-lifted X.

http://www.utahoffroad.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=374&PN=1&TPN=3 (Scroll down. Mine's the silver X).

I had rubbing on the front wheels but trimmed plastic in the front and solved that problem.

I still have some rubbing from the right rear wheel on the plastic thing that protects the hose going from the gas cap to the fuel tank. This rubbing only happens if I try to flex over large obstacles.

I will install the Calmini shackles and do a t-bar crank sometime this week to see if that solves the problem.

By the way, I have the Nismo wheels. I'm not sure of their backspacing.

I hope that helps you out.

John

I just purchased some 265/75/16 BFG A/T KO's and I have experienced only a slight rubbing so far on my unlifted 03 4x4 X. Only when I turn the X eXtremely sharp do I notice it. Not enough to worry about any trimming.

I pulled those pics and deleted the above post.

Good luck with your tire rub issues.

I have 265/75/16 BFG AT/KO's on Nismo Wheels.

I trimmed the plastic in the front but still had rubbing on the right rear wheel -- Gas filler cover or something like that.

I did the poor mans lift and all the rubbing is gone laugh

Thats what you think John... but that little black protector cover... its gonna get hit till you rip it off. Even a 3" lift will not prevent that from rubbing. The X flexes well into the wheel well and that's part of the game. Trust me, and the other 5 UXOC members that know all about it. We need to take you out on a real tough trail where stuffing is the name of the game. (ie Hell's Revenge, Poison Spider to name a few!)

Congrats on your 1 1/2" lift... time for that locker yet? wink

fastdrmr -- so you guys have broken off the gas filler cover thing, with a lift and all? frown

I guess there's a point where I have to accept mine and the X's limitations.

I will, however be putting lockers on within the next year or so laugh
