Swung by my local Les Schwab Tire Center and inquired about a 3 inch lift kit. The manager told me that they did not sell or install lifts for Nissans because the frames are "notoriously weak" and that "you'd be welding on the frame every other week or so...".

I did a search here on the site and it didn't come up with this problem specifically. Anyone else heard anything to prove/disprove what this guy is saying?

The guys that frequent the 4x4parts.com board would probably know more about any such issues, they deal with Nissans from the 80's up and mod the hell out of 'em.

Hmmm?? That's a bit odd! I took my X to a Les Schwab to get it aligned after I installed my lift. I got nothing but questions on who sells lifts for the Xterra so they could sell/install them. Sounds like the gomer that you talked to has personal issues with Nissans.

He has no clue what he's talking about.
The Xterra and Frontier frames are boxed, which is more than you can say about most American made c-channel frames.

Mine's beat to death and holding up just fine.

Well compared to a Hummer, Land Rover, MB-G-wagon and Steyl Pirch, then yes, it is weak. But compared to a J**p, it is stronger. It is also stronger than most American crap out there.

As far as I know there are 3 lift manufacturers of Xterra lifts( 3") They are Calmini,SLR, and AC(Automotive Customizers). AC's website is 4x4parts.com.

I checked out AC at 4x4parts.com. Am I missing something, or is the liftkit made by Rancho? This is the suspension lift I'm seeing a pic of on the website... when people refer to "the AC liftkit" are they talking about the Rancho or about the bodylift mentioned further down the page (put not pictured)?

EDIT: Nevermind, I found a step-by-step install of the AC on the PNWX website, it's not the Rancho... my bad.

Thanks to Mosi, the step-by-step can be found here: PNWX
