Has anybody replaced the factory rear shocks with air shocks? Lopaka informed me tonight that his X was bottoming out with the load of his camping gear. (We don't pack light when we go camping) He is thinking that he might get a set of add a leaf springs. My experience with the add a leaf sets is there great with a load a bone jarring when not loaded. Am I correct? I've used airshocks when I had my Pathy because I used to carry up to 20 Aluminum 80 SCUBA Tanks and didn't want to look like I was driving a lowrider.
Comments Flames or otherwise would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know if anyone has done it but I've been thinking about it. Have you found any that fit?

Nope, haven't started looking yet. I'm sure my Brother in law will be able to come up with some that will work. He found a set of Gabriels for my Pathy when nobody else could come up with anything. I'll let you know what I find.

I had air shocks installed on my old ford ranger truck...

I loved them to death...When I loaded up the back end, I pumped them up with plenty of clearance...I let the air out of them when the back end wasn't loaded down...

Air shocks are only used as rear shock replacements...But if I were you, instead of getting air shocks, just get SLR Shackles or rear leaf spring inserts...

Either one will give you at least a 2" rear lift...

Good Luck

Any recommendations for the air shocks yet? I have somewhat of the same problem scuba tanks and gear and then hook a boat up, driving at night my low beams seem like high beams to the oncoming traffic. And it looks pretty stupid too.

check out dean's air lift mod for his 97 pathy, i think this is what your looking for http://dean.thayer.net/off-road/specs.htm
& look under airlift air springs, this should solve your problem!

Look kind of elaborate to me just to level out the Xterra when carrying a heavy load. Some air shocks to replace the factory shocks would do just fine!
