FYI, I just installed a HKS intake and left the temp sensor in the factory location and I didn't get a check engine light... Could be something else... Let us know if putting it in the K&N makes the light go off.

I looked at the k&n first but I went with air raid. I like it better cause it uses the bottom of the stock air box And I have there tbs

No light came up after my install. Only "if" you figure its a false code, just disconnect the negative from your battery for a few hours (overnight).. that will clear the light. See the dealer if it comes on again.

Thats just restrictang the air you could pull in if you went the K&N kit.

As far as I could tell, (as well as by asking others), the "hissing" is normal. I only notice it while idling at a stop light, it turns into a nice growl when I get to 2000- 2500 rpm. I thought it was some type of air leak at the beginning and kept rechecking my connections and clamps. Its been on (K&N charger) for 2 months now, including a 2 week road trip, nothing indicates any other problems due to the install, I've seemed to have gained a mile or two to my MPG.

Just installed mine yesterday, got to test it out quite a bit since. Easy install, it goes well with my Calmini exhaust, nice growl to it. I've noticed a slight improvement in gas mileage, a little extra oomph, too... I recommend it to everyone, especially those who have lost some power/fuel efficiency due to larger tires (I'm running 265/75/16's).
The only thing I don't like is the hiss, but usually my stereo is too loud to even hear it!
UPDATE: Just an FYI, my Xterra just passed State Inspection with the Aircharger...

I am not an expert, but believe me when I say K & N filters are bad news. I have ridden motocross now for 15 years, and you need to wash your foam filter and re-oil every ride for the filter to be effective in removing dirt/dust. We did a test a few years back. You should do the same. Take some vaseline and smear it somewhere visible in the plumbing after the filter. Ride around for 3000 miles. Open up and look at the smear, it will be covered in crap. Do the same with a stock setup, and it will be clean. Anyone who installs a K and N is a fool, and will kill the engine prematurely. No doubt. To let more air in, you have to let more dirt in, its just common sense. Plus, if you wring it out after you wash it like a clown , you'll ruin the invisible webbing, allowing more crap to get through. And never use gas to clean it, use kero. Gas will eat the filter. Go back to stock if you value your engine. I bet you use fram oil filters also! YZ

YZ Maybe you could explain why I spent a week following another Xterra through the dustiest conditions I have ever seen and had absolutely no dirt or dust in my intake past the filter? I intentionally looked inide the intake tubes and they were totally clean. It was never that clean before. This is picture of Rrdstarr's filter (we went on the dust from hell trip together). Mine looked pretty much the same. Neither one of us had any dirt past the filter. Like XOC has said, K&N would be out of business by now if their filters weren't any good.

[/b]My comment is that this K&N Aircharger actually traps dirt better than the K&N replacement filter for the stock airbox!
