Just bought a 2000 XTerra not running and wondering what year engines will work?

I am told that a 2002 won't work, Does anyone know what the difference is and what I can change on an 02 to make it work?

2002 will work.. I have one in my 2000. You have to just be careful when you hook up the wiring harness and you have to figure out what to do with the EGR sensor (mine is fixed to my exhaust manifolds so it can get a temp reading.

Side note. The SC engine will not work for lots of reasons.

Thanks! Thats good, I know of 2002 engine with 50,000km's for a bit of a deal.

I put an 04 engine in my 00 X. I had to swap my old exhaust manifolds over due to a change in them.
I also had to swap my old intake manifold over to the new engine to clear a code. One plug was diifferent on the wiring harness.
Other than that, it went if just fine and is running good.
