Go buy it. Well worth the money if you like offroad racing games.
You'll read a bunch of bad reviews about it and I don't know why. Yeah I agree that the graphics aren't fantastic but they're better than average, pretty OK actually. It's not something I noticed in game play.
The game play will totally suck you in and you'll be lost in it for days. Some of the career races and challenges are very cool, some friggin' really hard too. If you haven't seen anything about the game....it's HUGE! 14,400 square km's. They rate it at 5,000 square miles but at 62.14 it calculates to about 8700 sq miles. Either way, it's BIG. The game has 75 unlockable/purchasable vehicles including MCs, quads, muscle cars, buggys, truggies, monster trucks, modded semi trucks, and even a side car and a hovercraft. There are 19 different areas called camps. I road a MC on road and off road from one camp to an ajoining camp and it took me 30 minutes real time. There's an achievement from a couple of camp drives that has been taking people in excess of two and a half hours to complete. You can do them online with buddies also.
There is just about every terrain imaginable in the game....sand dunes, snow, desert, salt flats, Mt Raineer, San Fran bay area, the Grand Canyon, Crater Lake, Monument Valley, a dust bowl region, burned out forests, etc, etc. All kinds of weather too, one of the races has tornados and flying debris, I had a travel trailer smash into me from the sky while racing. Wild stuff. You can also just ride, drive, or just plain haul ass anywhere...it's all free roam outside the races.
Very cool game. Make sure you play through a few camps to really get the feel of the game, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised on how good it really is. A word of warning though.....play it with a memory card installed so you can save to it once in a while along with the normal HD saves. My game froze during a save with over 50 hours into it and I lost it all, completely gone and had to start over from scratch.

I did the secret achievement this morning...Sand to Stone, pretty much upper left of the map to bottom right. Straight through took me 2 hours and 15 minutes. Once again, the map is HUGE! I rode MCs all the way between 85-128 mph. No fill in, no choppy screen. I truly don't understand people's problem with the graphics, people have gotten really spoiled...have they never played Pong or Pac-man? Gaming has come a long way. :)
You and your son are going to have a blast with this game BigE.

I played with some fuggin' old guy named Ergophobia the other night. If anyone knows shit about games.....it's him. A couple of minor complaints but other than that.....this game kicks ass. My opinion not his.

Almost 2 months later and this game still kicks ass.
My gamertag is Miker415 and I am currently ranked #1 in the world online.
Seriously, you're missing out if you don't have this in your game library.

Yeah, that's why it's a multi-billion dollar business. STFU.
