Hi, any body ever try to add aftermarket tow hooks, I was wondering if it was a good idea to remove the stock tow hook and add aftermarket ones. 4 of them to be exact 2 inthe front and 2 in the rear, this would mean I would have to drill holes in the frame, can anyone tell me if you have done this or if this is a good idea?

You can mount 2 off the shelf tow hooks up front.

The passenger side is already threaded, but the driver side will require small fingers to hold a nut in place while tightening.

Out back, you will need to drill holes, as they are not spaced correctly for a standard tow hook.

They are a good idea, since the stock tow hook is quite wimpy.

Got to your local wrecking yard, and pick up a few tow hooks from Pathfinders. They fit just fine. Any year will do.

Any 4X4 shop should have hundreds of them in a box on the floor that says $3.95.

4 Wheel Parts was giving them away with a purchase last month or something.

Also, steelhorse makes tow hooks, but you'll have to search around where to find them. They're pretty common tho.

The Pathy towhook is no better than the X towhook, cheap cast crap that is rather fragile. You want a nice strong forged hook.

Not to mention Pathfinders are all but impossible to find in junkyards, believe me, I've tried!

Don't use the JC Whitney hooks on the front, you'll have to drill more holes (in addition to the factory ones) to make them fit and that will be too many holes in the area for it to hold up to the stress. See this thread
