Yes, that's ridiculous.

Shouldn't cost more than $150-200 per axle for a gear install. Add a hundred bucks to each end if they have to do the disassembly. You can save money by dropping the front axle and the 3rd member yourself and just taking those to the shop.

That’s the exact price I was thinking I know he is not experienced in Xterras, he was saying that the major labor comes front dropping the front end, how much trouble is it for me to do it (I don’t have major tools or any drive line experience, the largest project that I’ve done is a suspension lift on a 4runner)? What about Shimming and spacing?
