I feel the need... The need to upgrade...
Anyone out there have experience with the black finish, 165w KC Daylighters? I'm thinking of picking up a pair of 'em for the X. I'm a little biased as the housing is black and they come with yellow smiley face covers... ;>

Pika has a set on his rig, and they are really bright. A little too narrow of a beam for my taste, though. I've heard conflicting reports of their rust resistance, but overall they seem like good lights for the money. ------------------ gothamist -- MAXC member http://www.beatdriven.com/xterra.html

Sounds good... They're only $109 for the kit, so they're not terribly expensive. I'm going to be using them more on back roads than in the woods, so the pattern won't be terribly critical, but I hear ya...
Thanks!

I've had KC Hilighters on my truck for 7 yrs. After about 4 years the insides began rusting because the moisture seal wasn't the best.

I got the black KC 100watt ones for the ARB...Love'em, really really really bright! I don't think you need 165watt but its your X....Like FSRBIKER, they have a 23 year warrenty, very strong and rigid, a sealable bulb and don't cost a arm-and-a-leg. I used the included wiring and used my stock fog light switch to activate the relay for the KC Hiliters...works out very nice and easy. I don't like the yellow light covers, I leave them off. Maybe I'll get the black soft covers. ------------------ Join the Heartland Xterra Owners Club! www.hxoc.net

Awesome! Thanks for the info, guys. I think these are the winners. Partssource.com has 'em for $109 a set including the covers, wiring, switch, etc.
Now. To mount them, I think I'm going to pick up a Westin Safari bar for the meantime, until I decide on either an ARB or TJM bar and can afford same. They're only $139, so why not - I can always sell the bar later on.
I would like to wire them up, possibly using the un-used switch location in the dash, next to the wiper switch for the rear. Two questions come to mind;
1) Someone mentioned that Nissan left a little "bonus" relay in the block that's not used - can I use this?
2) Where do I penetrate the firewall most easily, in a preferably non-modifying way? That is, I don't wanna drill another hole... Someone mentioned the speedo cable or existing wiring harness entry point as a good place?

Where did you find them on that web site. I guess my searching skills aren't up to speed. I searched "KC daylighters" and even just "lights". Both gave me "No Documents"

Thanks a bunch, PNUTMNM, Ian... Good to know! FYI, the link to the lights is here! It's actually at Automotive Accessories Connection, which I think is a part of, or the parent company of The Parts Source. Top kit, $109. Schweet! ------------------ 2001 Solar Yellow SE 4x4 V6 5spd

Hey Phreak, I'm curious why you don't just put them directly on the bumper? Also, for an update, there are still no problems running the 80/100 9004's.

The great thing is people can't stay mad at your X in traffic with those faces looking at them in the rear view mirror! Chainsaw - that's exactly what I'm looking to do! Sweet!
I'm gonna pick up the Westin for the meantime until a) I can afford the TJM and b) it's warmer outside and I can work on stuff. I'd rather not drill into the bumper. Not that I'm not into modifying the X, but I'd rather perform "reversible modifications" wherever possible... At least for now, while the bank still owns it. ;>

be careful with automotive accessories. i ordered the same lights you are talking about a couple months ago and after a week of waiting for the lights i called the place to see what was up. they didn't even have the damn things in stock and nobody called to tell me that i wouldn't be getting my lights anytime soon. i just canceled the order and picked up some kc's at pep boys. they aren't as bright as the 165W from auto accessories, but they do the job. if i remeber correctly the cost me $110.

Yikes... That's scary. Thanks for the heads up!
If they didn't send you the 165w ones that you ordered...and paid for - I'd be on the phone with them but quick!

Sounds like my experience with offroad-accessories.com (who just stole my money, and had their telephone # disconnected a week after I placed my order.) Try the Pro-comp 130's. They are long range but have a fluted lens for some side light dispersion. The halogen 130watt bulbs are whiter and brighter than higher wattage sealed beams.

Are you sure those are 165 W? All the sites I've seen show them as being 150 W. I just bought a pair of the 150W and the box was definitely 150, not 165. I know the autoAccessory Web site has them listed as 165 but they may be incorrect. Check out these two sites for info. http://www.kchilites.com/ http://www.kclights.com/ ------------------ Benny 2000 SE, 4x4, auto Solar Yellow http://home.earthlink.net/~bennylen/Xterra/Xterra.html

I just got the KC 150s. I ordered them from these guys: http://www.central4wd.com. I had them in two weeks for $115 delivered. This link takes you to the lights. They are shown as 150s. http://www.central4wd.com./gocart/brandlist.asp?ID=163 Good luck. ------------------ Patto Silver 2001 4WD XE 3 Pak ARB, 31" BFG AT KOs F-Jackie

Hmmm... Well, that would stink if they were "only" 150w, but it's not that important... I think that's still plenty bright! I'm thinking though, of ordering them from another place after hearing the horror story about AA! ------------------ 2001 Solar Yellow SE 4x4 V6 5spd

In support of accessconnect.com, I ordered my winch from them right before X-mas. Did it over the phone. The guy I talked to gave me a date that it should arrive and it was dead on target. Got my PIAA 1500s from them too.
