so I wanted to start a thread that indicates what special details people have found. If it has been posted already please don't repost. Keep comments minimal so they don't clutter the information.

What specific details did you find in the 05 X?

1. Small hook to hold the tray in the cargo area!!!

2. Rear seat cushions in fact do come out. They can be rotated forward and the back can lay flat or they can be removed via the red clips. Even the red clip solution is tons better than the previous little white plastic clips!

3. Several nets for the rear cargo area. Sad thing is no speakers in the rear cargo area.

4. Basket lid can not be lifted off easily. Couple of nuts and done, I think.

5. Bolt pattern on wheels is still 6, but smaller spread. Someone else already posted this.

6. Blue fabric/seats are comfortable and better than expected (ok, this one is an opinion).

Anyways, keep the list going!

I was in the dealership today getting my '00 fixed when I saw the '05.

Very sharp, i'll add one to your list.

7. Steps built in to your rear bumper.

I was at the Chicago Auto Show yesterday. They had the frame, engine, tranny, suspension for the 05 Fronty/X on display. The thing that caught my eye was the rear axle was labled as a "Heavy Duty Dana rear axle". I took a pic of it, but haven't gotten them developed yet. It doesn't say what model Dana rear axle it is, but it definately said Dana rear axle!!

ALSO, all the Off Road edition '05 X's didn't come with step rails.

8. No fabric door trim included in the Power Package.
Didn't they have that in 04? Who cares.
(comparing 05 S PowPkg to 04 XE PowPkg)

9. Auto dimming mirror. Didn't even notice it! That's good. What I mean is, I test drove at night in lots of traffic. Later I realized I never once made that instinctual reach for the mirror to flip the little (non-existant!) switch when people with bright lights were behind me. Guess it works!

10. Interesting little round trim covers in bumper. Guess that's where fog lights would be if I could afford an SE. wink
(or - just an excuse to post another picture of my new X!!!)

Nice tangent... yes, he is!

11. No fabric on any doors on the OR model. I really like that one, just wipe it down.

13. No fabric on the doors in the SE model (we were looking in one today) - so I guess that means no fabric on the doors on any of them.

14. Floor of rear cargo area flips up to reveal a small cargo hold under the floor.

16. Front passenger airbag: "smart" airbag (or whatever you call it). Has sensors that determine if a kid is in front passenger seat and disables the airbag accordingly. Also can tell if it's a child safetly seat and lock the seatbelt tensioner. Indicator light in middle of dash tells you when air bag has been disabled. This info came from the 05 owner's manual.

Side note: This will be my 10 year old son's favorite feature. He has been demoted to back seat of our Sebring, and his mother's Jeep Liberty, because of passenger side airbag. He loves the 2005 X (doesn't like the Liberty nearly as much) and is gonna crap his pants when I drive ours home for the first time next week. He has no idea I bought one! Then he'll crap his pants again when I tell him to get in the front. Guess he'll be back in diapers for a while laugh .

17. Location of jack and other tools is under the cushions of the back row! At first I thought it was an access panel to the fuel sending unit as in the 1st Gen... but nope! This helps to clear the area in the cargo area for that special cubby, great location for seldom used tools.

20. I removed the tow package off mine and put it on another X at the dealership - did not want to pay an extra $569!!! Learned the following - to lower the spare tire you no longer need a flash light to align the rod/key with the socket... there is a funnel plastic piece that directs you down to the socket!!! THANK YOU!

21. Freakish one... the rear view mirror inside the X (on windshield) distorts the vehicles behind you to seem tall and skinny. Has anyone else noticed this one??? ODD!

I did notice that weird distortion. And this morning I noticed it in the windsheild right next to the A pillar. I thought this girl I was looking at was a SCUD till I moved my head to the right... she was cute! wink

22. There are 2 pen holders in the lid of the center console... and change holders too!

My '05 X came with 3 keys, one supposedly a valet key. The manual says to give this key out to protect your valuables. I asked the salesperson what the heck that was all about, and he said it probably would only start the X, but not unlock the glovebox, but there is no lock on the glovebox. So, its a mystery to me what the valet key is for - it does the same thing as the other "regular" keys.

Mike, having worked for a valet company in the past, I can probably help out with that. The valet key allows you to easily hand the valet ONE key, and hence not hand him the key to everything else you own (house, work, etc...). And then also if the valet misplaces your that key you still have your regular one (and haven't lost those other ones too!). Of course in some cars the valet key also does what the salesguy said, which is start the car, and unlock the regular doors, but not the glovebox or the trunk.

Also, I have the auto-dimming mirror and haven't noticed anything odd like what was mentioned earlier.

No they are not auto... and I like it that way. The Canadian version probably has Daytime Running Lights (as they had them on previous Xs).

One thing I noticed during my test drive was the seating position. In my '01 I always wished the seat was higher off the floor. I have a 1987 Mitsubishi Montero too and I love the seating position in it (very similar to the new X).

Oh I thought you meant auto on when you turn on the car (or it senses darkness) and off when it senses light. It doesn't do that...and daytime running only in Canada.

But yes, they will automatically turn off after 5 minutes if you turn the car off but leave the lights on.

Yea, you'd think with all that computing power under the seat it would be auto everything. So you are a Canadian Morvran? I think the running lights are a good idea. I wonder why we don't have the option down here? I turn my lights on a lot for that reason during the daytime. Is it the fog lights that come on? I don't think I can use them alone for running lights because the main lamps have to be on before the fog lamps will operate.

[Uh Oh !]

No no, Ohio-born and raised, living in DC atm. I just read that in the manual. I do prefer them though, and feel better when in a car that has them. On the X, I think it's the main lights that act as daytime running, but they shine at a lower intensity than normal.

My wife's Volvo has spoiled me with all its auto features. From auto-on lights (including the dash lights and nav screen changing when sensing light change) to water-sensing wipers.

I my self do not like things that are auto without a manual override. You would think that we should have the intelligence to decide for ourself when we want the light on or off. Sure, auto is OK most of the time, but is it worth the lost of control over the things you paid for? I believe in personl choice, and no once should force you to have the lights on in the odd times that you actually wanted it off. Same thing with the auto on AC when it is switched to windshield vent, I can turn it on IF I wanted it on...

I agree to a point. With headlights, I think all cars should have a daytime running feature. I can't say how many times I've been driving, in all different conditions, and thought to myself, "Man, that guy needs to have his headlights on...I can't see him". There are times when the car's computer may know what's best for the safety of the driver (or the number of people who forget to turn their lights on at dusk).

Then again, I would hate not being able to manually disable any of that stuff if I needed to.

37. We all know about the "wipe down" cargo area,
but here's and even easier way to clean the cargo floor:

Just lift the "hidden compartment" lid up and take it out of the vehicle, then you can hose it down good (the lid, not the cargo area itself)

That lid is basically the whole cargo area floor.
Can't believe to took me 5 months to figure that out. I was staring it down today trying to figure out how I was gonna get all the sand and dirt out of there, then the little mental light bulb came on!
