A rear locker sort of like a Limited Slip Differental (LSD). Except a LSD will only kick in when traction is lost. A locker will maintain a lock of both wheels allowing them to spin at the same time no matter what the condition, they are greatly needed on the 2wd rear set. Because there have been many a time that I have been off road where one tire would spin and the other wouldnt, if the other would have then I would not have gotten stuck.

Wow thanks for the quick reply. I was just waiting for some gear head to rip into me about how he knows so much more about trucks than me. Once again thanks.

Nope... no one gets torn into on this board. The key is, not to take anything too personal. It's all good for the most part. On the subject of "lockers" here's a great page that shows, with kewl graphics, what a locker is and exactly how they work. Differentials Enjoy!

another good place on the web to learn about lockers, lsd's or even 4wd/2wd systems in general, is "www.howstuffworks.com". they explain everything you need to know, simply but not so simple you feel like a child or anything. the xterra's a great vehicle, it's your responsibility to learn as much about it as you can. have fun.

Mr. Todrick! How have you been?If you don't remember me ,well its racerxtra I'm just traveling under a new name with my snazy broadband connection! There are some great mods going on here at the 4x2 site... Mine are a bit different: K&N intake, Nokya lighting in stock housings, de-badged and shiny, 18"Enkei RT6's , Toyo Proxes, 2" drop front and rear, neoprene seat covers in a racy red! I know I haven't been around for a while but project WRX has drained me of time and money! Next on the project list is my kids 80' Monte Carlo! Just got it for him (he liked Training Day so much we thought we'ld pimp out a monte for him!) E-mail me for pics of the X and the WRX , both in lovely silver , of course!cohlineman@vbbn.com

Although I am the Proud owner of a very capable 2WD, I mistakenly passed over this part of the fourm expecting little more than good natured BS from the 4X4 folk.Ooops So right now all I've done is installed deflectors-bug, sides and rear.I'm looking at setting up some roof lighting, but I'm really interested in the locker idea.I never thought about it on a 2WD although I have thought about the 3" lift. Since moving to Fl., I have alot more Mud and sand to deal with and think the lift and a more capable tire would be useful. Thanks all for the insight

to do my list correctly and completely right now would be about 15-20k because of all the custom fab work.
thats why i sit and wait for either Calimini or SLR to start making kits like the ones that exist for other makes and models. saving money on the complete custom fabrication of a suspension would greatly reduce that cost...
My truck sits... near stock, because the parts either do not exist... or do not exist in a price range that seems comprable to other kits on the market.
I think i have finally decided... if i cant find a kit i like this year... then im gonna go ahead and go Custom... a piece at a time.
