anyone know of an adapter that allows yakima 1" round bars to be attached to the monster tubing on the roof? i could fabricate something, but i dunno if that's a good idea. the load warrior isn't an option- my parking deck doesn't have the clearance...

Shot in the dark but you might want to look at mighty mounts. If that doesn't work (or is not sturdy enough), there are always good old fashioned U-bolts. Available for cheap at any hardware stores. That's how I mounted my KargoMaster to the roof rack.

I looked at the mighty mounts the other day to put my Yakima up on the rack. But decided after looking at Xterra Galatica's website: http://www.xterragalactica.net/mods/bikerack.html That I would go his route which will allows a low profile and easier access to my rides from the side. I spent a few dollars more for my u-bolts at a mom and pop hardware sore accross the road from work instead of driving 20 miles to home depot. But it was still cheaper than the mighty mounts.

To attach yak round bars to the X, you need X-towers, mightymounts is a mounting option for accessories, not the bars. If you want to keep the low profile, you can try apehangers.. ( more of a outrigger for round bars ) http://straydawg.com/apehgr.html If your aim is a bike rack, you can also try this.. ( the mightymount method ) lowest profile using the existing rack http://www.geocities.com/x_canuk/rack2.html [ 11-09-2001: Message edited by: xcanuk ]

I simply used 1" conduit straps(metal loop type) and painted them black. It requires drilling through the rack but its painless and way easy, and best of all cheap. I use the Yakima bar for my bike mounts. It also keep the rack more low profile than store bought mounts. E-mail if you want some pics. evansdyad@bendnet.com

They show no sign of fatigue. Even after trying to drive into the garage with my bike stll attatched!! I know the average person might not have much faith in the design from a person who forgets his bike is on the roof,...but sh** happens! Hey boarder, I sent you a couple of photos fer you to host, did you get them? Let me know if you didnt and i'll try it again. Thanks

Yep, got 'em!
I'll pop 'em up for ya and send you an Email with the URL...
True enough about the conduit stuff - unless you flex it back and forth at severe angles, it should be plenty strong.
