Check these out:

Look pretty good. They are claiming 14hp with the stock air box and 35hp with intake and exhaust. $475.00 for the pair. Of course, they are "for off-road use only". Anyone know the emissions laws in Texas? I am new to the state.

I am VERY, VERY, VERY excited to see those! Must save money and must have by summer!

Actually, my Birthday is in March. Could be a good present to myself...hehe! laugh

There really shouldn't be any emissions problems. Headers just help the engine breath easier, and expel exhaust better. The mounts for the sensors are there and the cats bolt back on. Looks like a real good cure for the chronic cracked exhaust manifold problem on the VG33E engine.

This is awesome! What is involved with the install, is it a DIY job?

These do replace the pre-cats that are right behind the old manifolds, so you're running with the regular cats only.
Probably doesn't really make a difference, but the O2 sensor is only on one cylinder instead of just after the collector, but the wires for the sensor wouldn't reach that far down...

Another new product. I love seeing new stuff coming out for our trucks.

1.) Need to get a job.
2.) Need to pay some bills.
3.) Need to get a steering setup.
4.) Need to get headers.
5.) Need to get a front bumper.
6.) Need to build a back bumper.

OK, that's enough. I'll get more depressed if I keep thinking about all the things I can't afford right now.

So, without the precats do you think there is a risk of failing emissions?

What would "for offroad use only" mean?

Means 'probably won't pass emissions', but they may.

Most likely it means that SLR doesn't want to get them CARB emission certified or that they don't want to accept responsibility if your truck does fail emissions. The reality of the matter is that they should have little of no impact on emissions but the certification process and the responsibility is time consuming and expensive for SLR.

The only problem is those precats it's going to get rid of. Even though I'm in Texas now, my truck is from California. Do you think losing those precats will cause any CEL or OBDII problems?

I missed that.
People like me, with a MY2000 Xterra, sold in the middle of the USA, do not have the second set of catalytic converters. Those sold on the coasts, or 2001 or later have 2 cats on each side.

Actually, my Xterra only has two cats and I'm on the West Coast. I think Schlud's only has two as well. Maybe they changed things mid year or something but I don't think the the two cats were exclusive only to the central part of the country.

Brent; are you sure the upper cats are up that far? I'll have to look again but it seems they would attach right to the end of the headers and be in the correct place.

That's actually what I was just thinking about - I think they might be just behind where the headers end.

i too have been waiting for headers for the xterra, even before i had the truck!

I am pretty sure that 15hp is what is estimated to be at the flywheel/engine...but I could be wrong.

Ok, I just looked in the ESM. According to the ESM, the extra 2 cats were only on California models in 2000. I oculd not find a picture of the stock manifold. However, I was just poking around under the hood today and I'm 99.99% certain that the cats attach right to the end of the headers. The SLR has the spot for the pre-cat oxygen sensor which seems normal and then the cats would attach and then you'd get the next section of pipes with the rear oxygen sensor.

Yup, they're immediately downstream of the manifold, just after the 02 sensor.

From the pictures posted, it seems that the O2 sensor is next to some of the exhaust pipes (especially on the passenger side). So you're saying that these headers extend just past where the precats would end?

so do you think these headers would fail emissions? they could fail the visual inspection if the people testing knew the car came with pre-cats.

Yeah, and in Cali there is a good chance they might look.
