Hi, folks -

After a lot of ruminating as to what to do about a bug deflector, I ended up with a "FormFit" that I got from a local Nissan Dealer... even after a search, I didn't see any specific threads on this one, so I thought I'd give a little review for the benefit of those who might be looking at BDs.

The smoke unit has a low profile that conforms perfectly to the hood lines of my 2002, and installs with NO drilling and NO tape! The hood has six pre-existing holes that the deflector uses, and it's affixed in the centered position by two C-clips that are pinched against the underside of the hood with two tiny screws. Pretty neet idea. I'm happy with the end result cosmetically, as well as functionally. These retail for around $100.00, and I believe they're available on the web in addition to dealerships.

Use this information as you will.

Cheers -

Ooo... I forgot to mention that the two little bumpons that they give you to keep the deflector from rubbing the vehicle are substantial (about a quarter-inch high), and have the 3M adhesive on them that will not harm the paint (put them on the HOOD... NOT the deflector, or they'll wear through the paint! But the best part, again, is no drilling or fussing with tape strips.

X.

Is it a Nissan-branded accessory? Sounds like it mounts similar to the way my 2000/2001 Nissan hood deflector mounts, but beware if it has any portions that "grab" onto the front hood edge like mine does, those clips can wear into the paint. The foam tape provided to "protect" those spots was useless, I replaced it with the clear 3M Scotchcal when I replaced mine after someone broke it.

I just got one as well and like it a lot, the design is great for fitting the 02'. From a distance you can barley make it out. I purchased it for the functionality, and it really seems to do the job. I was unsure at first because it sits so close to the body. I highly recommend it, although it expensive.

The one thing is, I wish it was tinted a bit darker.

Yeah the 3M Scotchcal is the way to go, it seems to work well where their is "contact".

The neet thing about it is that the actual deflector doesn't touch the truck at all except at the attachment point UNDER the hood. In any case, it beats the hell out of those nasty stone chips!

I had a FormFit on the front of my '02 X for 2 months. After openning/closing the hood maybe 4 or 5 times, the thing broke. One night, I closed the hood, and it must have vibrated the FormFit too much. Snap! The corner busted off.

So, be careful when shutting those hoods with that piece of cheap plastic attached to your hood.

just a note. i found a bug guard at Pepboys designed for the X and only paid $34 for it. It did, however, reguire some drilling, but who doesn't like a little drilling.

Gentlemen, if you want you can also try the following web site (sorry I do not know who to post a link):

WeatherTech.com

It's $55 plus $12 for shipping.
No drilling required, I have one, it took maybe 10 minutes and it looks great.

I definately recommend the model from Weather Tech. You can get it @ www.weathertech.com I think it was only about $70.00 including shipping when I bought mine. No drilling, form fit and 3M bumpers too. cool
